    Synopsis

    A Scanner Darkly
The war on drugs has been lost, and when a reluctant undercover cop is ordered to spy on those he is closest to, the toll that the mission takes on his sanity is too great to comprehend in director Richard Linklater's rotoscoped take on Philip K. Dick's classic novel. With stratospheric concern over national security prompting paranoid government officials to begin spying on citizens, trust is a luxury and everyone is a suspected criminal until proven otherwise. Bob Arctor (Keanu Reeves) is a narcotics officer who is issued an order to spy on his friends and report back to headquarters. In addition to being a cop, though, Arctor is also an addict. His drug of choice is a ubiquitous street drug called Substance D, a drug known well for producing split personalities in its users. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

      Beautiful But Complex

This movie really blew me away. It's illustrative look was pleasing and impressive. This is the first movie in which I actually enjoyed Keanu Reeves' performance, but Robert Downey, Jr. as usual, stole the show. My only real issue was the complexity of the plot. It's a movie that is enjoyed most the second time around; bits seem to get lost in the first viewing. Watching the extras also helped me understand. One of the most unique and interesting movies I've seen in a long while.

      A Worthy Adaptation

This a good movie and I think would have been a better one if it had been left live action. However, it is still more faithful to the Philip K. Dick original work than any of the other films based on his writings and as such is special. It does lack a few key scenes and does not convey the same feeling of paranoia as the novel, but if you liked the novel than you'll enjoy the movie.

Very interesting, similar style to Waking Life, same director (Richard Linklater- Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Dazed and Confused, Slacker). I loved the book, so seeing Keanu Reeves play the main part was a let down. I'm not a fan of his acting, it takes too much energy for him to act.

Not one of my favorites from director Richard Linklater but undeniably hypnotic regardless. The advanced form of rotoscope animation is a sight to behold. Definitely worth a second look to this film buff and avid blu-Ray collector at this price.

A Scanner Darkly is a great film for those who are into psychological-thrillers/conspiracies and art in general. I would recommend this those who have seen other movies along the vein of Requiem For A Dream, Moon, Soylent Green. Great Sci-Fi plot and humor involved.

This is a movie that looks like those Charles Schwab commercials. It's very entertaining with the animation that they put over the actors in the movie.
