The Next Generation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off... Great Laptop! Very versatile, adjustable screen. Exactly what I wanted. Doubles as a tablet. Perfect resolution. I'm new to Win8, but it's great. I typically just used the familiar desktop, but performance and tools are upgraded, so I notice the difference. The trackpad in a different location isn't that big of a deal. I use the screen more, and usually have an external mouse anyways. Never been a fan of laptop trackpads. I've been able to play a few games on it, and the display is beautiful. However, the two things that have bugged me.... The space bar misfires often. The wifi sucks. Out of the box, it's downspeed was about 1Mb and I have a 10Mb connection. My older dell laptop utilizes at least 8Mb of that. I referred to forums and noticed others had problems too. I'm still working through the issue, but was able to get it up to 4Mb. Soo.... it's working out currently. It was a little pricey and I had to pull some strings and hit up people who owed me money, but I'm very happy with my purchase.

really a wonderful CPU in *almost* every way
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is our first touchscreen computer. It is a very nice laptop, the way the screen can move around allows you to basically have a little keyboard and a huge amazing screen, so it seems so compact and useful when used like a laptop, the ability to flip the screen over and have everyone else see what you are talking about or looking at without having to move it at all comes in handy ALOT... but if you are hoping to close it all the way up and use it like a tablet it doesn't close quite as tight as I'd like and it's a little to heavy to hand around the room, etc. its an amazingly nice laptop, but it's just an amazingly nice laptop, not really a laptop/tablet hybrid. Awesome machinery, maybe a bit pricey.

Great convertible for home use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved this laptop/convertible and had difficulty parting with it. The display was super; fast and responsive; lots of fun and great apps, however, I had to keep reminding myself of the one major reason I was buying a laptop, and that was for portability. So I ended up returning it to the store. In spite of the many negative reviews regarding the location of the touch pad, I thought it was a pretty cool concept! It did not create any problems for me accessing or using it. As far as having a place for your wrists to rest I used a wrist pad or a mouse. Lastly, the hinge feature had me captivated, you will enjoy the many viewing angles the hinge allows. Oops! one last thing-the sound quality is the best!!! Just wish it was lighter, I would still have it today.

Excellent look, feel; needs more stability
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Now, it should be noted that the main problem I have had with this computer (the battery will disconnect from time to time so it really only works consistently while plugged in) can probably be fixed. I, in fact, am going to Best Buy today to get it fixed. If this is fixed, then the computer would be 5-star and have "good" to "excellent" performance. That all said... ... I think it is hands-down the best convertible available when it comes to form-meets-function types of necessities: the touch pad IS above the large keyboard (which is VERY easy to type quickly on), so this is a bit awkward at first- but you'll get over it, just like any normal person would if they use this new format for at least a week or two. The touch-pad works very well, though certainly isn't quite as smooth as what Apple offers. Even so, if you are wise and switch between the touch screen and pad, you can work MUCH faster than any pad alone, and even faster than mouse-work much of the time. 1080 resolution makes it better than the vast majority of the convertible competition. It comes with 6gb of RAM (4gb built-in, 2gb in an 8gb slot- upgrade it to 12gb if you want!). The solid-state hard-drive is definitely fast: it boots in under 20 seconds. All-in-all I have to say that Acer has really put themselves on the map with this one. For $900 you can get a top-of-the-line computer that will turn heads. I have had this computer since the beginning of June and have gotten into conversations about it with inquiring strangers at least a dozen different times.

Bought 2 Kept 1
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I do IT for my helahtcare business. We have a network of 40+ PC's. We chart patients using EMR and decided to migrate from tracitional PC's to tablets. This hybrid was the choice of my technicians. It was selected for size of screen (larger than many in the tablet/hybrid market) and design (wanted something with a normal keyboard but also a tablet function). I bought two. I ended up keeping one. First, the set up is average (much easier than SONY VIAO but not as simple as LENOVO YOGA or MICROSOFT SURFACE). Getting it to 8.1 is easy to do. I loaded two machines with the same softwar and same set up protocol. One machine had a latency for the same task that would be up to 6 seconds longer than the other. That same machine had some intermittently touch screen issues. I was told to go back to the factory settings and start over. I did but the issues did not go away. I returned it. BEST BUY is wonderfully easy to work with. The unit has the BEST design for screen sturdiness It is a little on the heavy side to use as a tablet to carryy around. FYI... I purchased a LENOVO YOGA 2 PRO. I love it. It was easy to set up and use. I have a SONY 14 A that I would never buy again. I also added three SURFACE PRO tablets which have been impressive. It is wonderful how there is not alot of ancillary programs added on a SURFACE. ACER could learn from that as they had a rediculous amount. Based on my experience, I will stick to SURFACE or YOGA machines but the ACER engineering of the screen mechanics was very nice.

Love, Love, Love the convertability of the screen
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All in all I am very pleased with this computer. I do a lot of multitasking with many programs and multiple windows going at once. I have not had any issues with being slow or freezing up. I really like the feel of the keyboard although sometime I have to hit the spacebar with a little extra force. I am not accustomed to the cursor pad being above the keyboard. It is not so much having to reach further but no place to rest the wrist/arm. I simply bought a wireless mouse to use. I love that I can use this laptop at my desk like a traditional laptop or I can lay the screen on the keyboard and use it like a tablet while curled up on the couch. I am not an expert on computers, by any means, but I think the price was maybe a wee bit high for the 'guts' of the laptop. I would assume I paid a little bit for the 'new and cool' aspect of the adjustable screen. But with that said I would still buy it again because I really like it.

meh
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like my Acer Aspire R7; however, I don't think that it's worth the price that I paid for it($999). I like the display and the way the screen folds to different positions. It is kind of heavy, but it's something to be expected from a large laptop. I don't like the keyboard. It is more difficult to type fast than other laptops that I had, especially Lenovos. The touchpad can be a pain to use because the entire area is touch sensitive. If you're touching the left click area while moving the mouse cursor to something like a button, then that action will be interpreted as a zoom. I really don't like the placement of the volume and power buttons. Holding the laptop by its sides will trigger one of those buttons. The power jack is small and flimsy. I expect it to break within a year or two of use. There is a known driver issue with the Broadcom wireless card and Windows 8. The maximum download speed is 2Mbps, which can be pain, if not impossible, when trying to view youtube videos or download large files. But until Broadcom releases an updated driver, and Acer publishes it out to its users, there is nothing much to do except using a USB wireless card that works with Windows 8. On the topic of drivers, as of this writing, Acer does not publish all the drivers for this laptop on its website. If you're installing your own copy of Windows 8, keep in mind that the laptop will not go to sleep when the lid is closed because the Acer driver that tells the OS when the lid is closed is not published. Acer's solution is to revert back to the version of Windows 8 that ships with the laptop.
