Father-and-son space travelers crash-land on a desolate planet Earth 1000 years in the future, and fight to find a way back home in this sci-fi action thriller from director M. Night Shyamalan. It's been nearly a millennium since mankind was forced to flee their home planet for the safety of Nova Prime, and in that time Earth has grown increasingly hostile to human life. Gen. Cypher Raige (Will Smith) has just finished an extended tour of duty when he reunites with his 13-year-old son Kitai (Jaden Smith), and begins making the transition from military leader to father. When an asteroid storm damages their ship, however, a badly injured Cypher and his son are forced to crash-land on Earth. Now, the only way for young Kitai to save his father's life is to find the rescue beacon that was lost when their ship came plummeting through the atmosphere. In order to survive and succeed, Kitai will have to become the type of soldier who would make his father proud. Zoë Kravitz and Sophie Okonedo co-star.~Jason Buchanan

- available in other formats.
- PG13 rating.
This got a LOT of negative reviews when it came out, I think cause many people hate Will Smith's son for some reason. But the story is good, I feel. I found it enjoyable and entertaining! But I get if you dislike certain actors, it takes away from liking a movie fully
I was really excited for this movie when the preview hit theaters. I don't know if it's because I had high expectations or if it was the guy behind us kicking our seats but the movie wasn't all I had hoped it to be. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good movie, it just...could've been better. Still, for the right price I thought it was worth owning for repeat viewings. This package includes a DVD, so I can share it with my mom. Also, it's mastered in 4k, so I can't wait to see how good it looks once I have a compatible TV. The digital ultraviolet is always nice to have, too.
A well crafted tale of a future. It was nice to have Will Smith in a very good support role.
I would recommend this to a friend

Not as bad as everybody says ...
This movie got slaughtered by critics upon release, but the reality is the movie's not that bad. When it was released I think that public perseption of both Will Smith and M. Night was negative, and this reflected on the film's perception as a whole.
The truth is this is a cool and orignal sci-fi film, a rarity among all the remakes and sequels of the day. It's really a film about a father and son coping with the loss of a daughter and sibling. The father and son are then thrown into a dangerous situation and must find a way to survive and seek aid. Along the way they bridge the gulf that was created by their mutual loss of a family member.
The movie also offers a creative look at an Earth that has been free of humans for thousands of years. New speicies of animals and plants have evolved and the planet is now a death-trap for humans. The special effects are solid.
The Blu-ray is top notch for sound and video. I haven't really explored the special features.
