I needed a wireless WiFi USB adapter for my office computer. I have moved to another office and the hard wired cable didn't reach, so my IT guy told me to get one of these devices. I don't know a lot about these devices, so I figure the newest version should help me stay operational for the longest time. I know that technology becomes obsolete so fast, so getting the newest version makes the most sense, as long as the price is reasonable. This device is an AC1200 (they also had an AC600) and it's 802.11 AC. 2.4GHz + 5 GHz some were only 2.4, so I thought it would be better to get a 5 also. MU-MIMO support too - I don't know what this means, but the others had the same spec. It also came with a tiny CD for installation, which worked like a charm. How does it operate? My IT guy said it works fine. He didn't give me a thumbs up or down on this model, so my guess is that he's okay with it. When he's impressed with something, he lets me know - I bought some sort of high tech computer and he was impressed. Though he wasn't too impressed with the cheapo speakers I installed. Overall, no complaints, so it does what it's suppose to do. I don't notice and speed issues and it hasn't dropped the connection yet, so things are good. I've had it for almost a week, so time will tell, but I've had Asus products in the past and they've worked fine. I give it a 5 star rating, because it did what it's suppose to do without any hassles and no trouble installing it. No extra software to install either. Plus, the cost was very reasonable, though the packaging is on the cheap side, but maybe that's what keeps the cost down, so no big complaints either. I highly recommend this device.

I have been very happy with my Asus gaming laptop for the three years or so that I've owned it. I'm not a gamer, but it has served me well for the many graphics applications I use regularly. The one shortcoming the Asus has is that it is limited to 2.4GhZ wireless. I did not know how much of a limitation this was until I upgraded my office internet service to 150 mb. I was disapplointed to find htat my throughput was just 40 mb The tech who installed the service told me I should look into an adapter to up the wifi speed. I bought the Asus unit because I've been so happy with this computer. It was more expensive than others I have seen, but I wanted to be sure it would work properly. Imagine my surprise (and delight) when I ran speedtest and pegged the needle at about 160 mb. It's like having a brand new laptop. Totally happy with this very small unit--the dongle just protrudes about 1/4" from the case of the computer. Works perfectly.

Bought this because I had a couple windows PC's wherein there apparently was a Windows update that screwed up the drivers for the network cards. Thought that both laptops had fried wifi network cards, so I bought this so I could continue to use them. Upon using this device, which worked seamlessly and swiftly, new updates occurred and I found that the updates corrected the network card issues. Considering I've always had funky experiences with Windows updates and am mainly a Mac user, I will have this in my arsenal so that if there are issues I can quickly find a solution related to connectivity. If for some reason network cards do get fried, this device is excellent because it's so small there's no worries about plugging it into a USB and worrying about an antenna or it sticking out far from the USB port making where you use it (lap, etc) challenging. Definitely would recommend this. Install was really quite easy and swift. Immediately worked without issue. Definitely would recommend to someone needing wifi connectivity or even as a preventive step in the event of wifi connectivity issues that may come about. Good tool to have in the toolbox.

      Asus was great until now...

The 2 other people before me have described exactly what wrong. Asus in my opinion has some of the highest quality products. The Best Buy employee suggested I swap out the netgear adapter in my had with this Asus...because it will " blow netgear out of the water" Obviously he had no idea what he was talking about. If your going to push a pc product do it because you truly have experience with it. If it hadn't of been Asus brand I would have kept walking but gave it a shot. Worked fine at first except after windows restarted. After windows restart the adapter shows up but no wireless signals are found. Only was to fix this is to unplug and plug it back in. After that comes the overheating. After a few hours the usb gets incredibly hot and will just disconnect and stop working. I thought it was driver issues to begin with however after discovering how hot it was after it would disconnect it all made sense. I believe Asus needs to go back to the drawing books with this one. And yes I tested with every usb slot I have along with a second pc. Long story short don't waste your time or money on this. I spent way too much time finding the cause of all these problems.

Asus's wireless products have been very good to me. I have had two of their 360 degree wireless routers (One I got for my parents, the other served me for two years before I gave it to a friend and it still runs). I am amazed because my father's wireless was outdated and had no 5G capabilities and this gave it to him. Range is no longer and his house is a bit larger than the average...and the wifi is at the far end of the house from where he sits. On my Lenovo Y510P the 2.4Ghz WiFi it had in it does not work well in apartment complexes so I needed 5Ghz and this works great. Downloading GTA V on Steam I was getting 13mbps to 15mpbs. Connection has been rock solid. It's small size means that if you forget it is in the laptop and say walk around with it you don't end up doing what I did to my other Asus Adapter (door frame + USB Wireless = sadness). Great value for money, great product, easy setup.

...is exactly where this thing belongs. Pros: You can plug-n-play without the CD (for most computers). Connects to the Internet. Cons: Crappy connection. Tested on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge with the same crappy results. However, my Samsung phone connected to the same WiFi router in the same room, barely a foot away from this adapter (actually further from the WiFi router) gets promised speeds. No problem. I get it. This is most likely something for a laptop that doesn't come with its own WiFi adapter. Regardless, it should work. It's dual banded and is recognized by the network as a 5 GHz device. I checked the ASUS website for drivers, downloaded the one and only driver available, and nothing changed after a reboot.

I was quite surprised when the built-in network adapter failed on my Asus laptop. As a former PC builder/assembler, I have always known Asus products to be the best of the best; top-quality components, excellent build quality, great customer service. I was very please to see that Best Buy offered a USB Network Adapter by my favorite manufacturer. I checked stock at my local BB retail store on the web page, order online and picked it up at the store an hour later. I downloaded a driver from the Asus site (only to find later it was included in the box on a mini-CD), popped in the USB "Nub" and watched it install itself in Windows 10. When prompted, I identified my network as "Home" and I was back online. It was that easy. Less than two hours elapsed between my discovering the problem and having it fixed and running (actually improving my performance as my built-in adapter was 802.11 N and the new Asus is dual band 802.11 AC). Kudos to Best Buy and Asus.

I bought this to replace a free standing adapter. It was very easy to install and Windows 10 recognized it immediately. The only free USB port I had was on the back of my computer which is next to an exterior wall. My router is in another room about 20 feet away and this adapter does not pull in the signal as strongly as the free standing one did. It functions OK but because it doesn't pick up the signal as well my internet slows down when I have a large volume of data. I would recommend it for a computer that is within 10 or 15 feet of the router or in the same room but for a desktop that has several walls and some distance between the computer and the router I would suggest getting a free standing receiver that has its own base and can be moved around a little to get a better signal.
