Inspired by the epic Old English poem of the same name, director Robert Zemeckis's digitally rendered film follows the Scandinavian hero Beowulf (Ray Winstone) as he fights to protect the Danes from a ferocious beast named Grendel (Crispin Glover). Though at first Grendel seems invincible, Beowulf eventually manages to defeat him in a desperate battle to the death. Devastated by her son's violent demise at the hands of Beowulf, Grendel's mother (Angelina Jolie) sets out in search of revenge. Later, Beowulf faces the biggest challenge of his life when he attempts to slay a powerful dragon. Anthony Hopkins, Robin Wright Penn, Alison Lohman, John Malkovich, and Brendan Gleeson co-star in an epic fantasy adventure penned by Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

      good enough

While the animation in Beowulf was visually stunning at parts, the animation harmed it more than not. The people are incredibly detailed, the men more than the women. Queen Wealthow is identical to Julie Andrews queen in shrek 2 and 3. Every strand of hair sways, every roll of fat and every muscle is detailed. The scenery is well done (when they are not in the mead hall) But when it comes to eyes and mouths, the animation really screws up. The eyes stare at you with the emptyness of a zombies, showing no emotion whatsoever. The voicecover is poor especially because the animation does not pick up facial movement well. I personally enjoeyed the plot change and felt it flowed better. The action scenes are top-notch. You have to watch it expecting to be entertained. It is not meant to be Braveheart, its meant to be a simple action movie

      A terrible Film

Being of Norwegian blood, I was very excited about the story when the movie started. I didn't have any real issues until Beowulf faced Gredel's mother and she seduced him and made him into a liar and deceiver of his people. Beowulf slays Gredel's mother and later returns to rule his own people. In this movie he rules the Danes and the Dragon is really his own son from his union with Gredels mother. Beowulf is a man of character and a hero. Not a liar and a cheat as depicted in this movie.

      Graphically pleasing

While I thought Beowulf looked great on bluray, I also felt the movie strayed far too much from the story. I often expect a movie to stray from a book, (or epic, in this case) but from defeating Grendel on, Beowulf the movie was utterly different from the story. While it was entertaining, it was disappointing at the least to see such a vast amount of change on a timeless story.

      The boy who cried wulf

I think this movie would have been better if the plot and voice acting were up to par.Anthony Hopkins and Angelina Jolie doing their characters in the movie was kind of a miss. But the 3D animation and blood and gore were really good.It reminds me of the boy who cried wolf people told me this movie was good, but when I saw it,I got tricked.

      Not for kids

finally, a CG movie for adults. i avoid kids' fare like kung fu panda so i hope more movies like this will be produced in the future. this could pass for an "R" rating and caters to more grown up tastes. creative action sequences, rousing score, and more than capable voice acting make "Beowulf" a classic in my book.

Groundbreaking cgi for entire cast & scenery. Made a year before the great cgi live mix Avatar, both with 3D scenes & feel. A story of heroes strength courage & their weaknesses.

      Better than I expected.

A little slow in the begining, but turned out to be very well acted, choreographed, and a great storyline. An interweaving of mythology with the foyables of being human played upon our own rememberances of reading the original stories in high school or college.

Great adaptation of the Beowulf story. Beautiful CGI animation. High-definition picture quality is outstanding. You'll love it if you like the Beowulf storyline. Plenty of special features if you're into that. Excellent Blu-ray package. Recommended.
