Bose Soundlink Revolve+ Bluetooth Speaker
I signed up to review this new Bose Soundlink Revolve+ speaker without having ever seen it. From having owned other Bose products, I expected a solid, well built speaker with excellent sound quality. Unlike other products I have tested, this speaker is new and not available in stores yet, not even a leaked photo on the web could be found!
After waiting several weeks, the package finally arrived, having seen the other Bose speakers, I was expecting something similar: small rectangle or square and easy to take along in a backpack. What I got, however, was a round cylinder, approximately 7” tall (not including the carrying handle). To describe it best, it sort of looks like a lantern you would take camping. The top of the cylinder is where you’d find all the buttons to control volume, pair devices etc. I have to say, initially, I was a bit disappointed, I was hoping for something more compact.
The build quality is typical Bose, solid construction (black metal cylinder with rubberized top and bottom) and excellent fit and finish. Included in the box are the speaker, a microUSB charging cable/wall plug, and instructions. The wall plug is designed to be plugged into a socket without extending too far form the wall, a nice touch. I made use of this by plugging it behind a dresser that I normally don’t plug things into due to the lack of clearance between the outlet and the dresser.
Pairing the Soundlink Revolve+ to my devices couldn’t have been easier, press and hold the bluetooth button for 2 seconds, a blue light blinks and a clear voice says “ready to pair”. I have 3 devices paired to it currently: iPad, iPhone and iMac. When the device is turned on, it tells you the % battery life left and what devices it’s connected to. You can toggle through the connected devices by pressing the Bluetooth button. This is impressive as I’ve had other bluetooth speakers that was only able to connect to 1 device at a time. For example, if it was connected to my iPad and I wanted to connect to my phone, I’d have to turn off bluetooth on the iPad and force it to connect to my phone.
In addition to being a bluetooth speaker, this device is also a speaker phone. According to the manual, its’ splash resistant as well, but it can’t be submerged in water. I have not tested this feature yet. Multifunction button is great, I’ve used it to skip songs, hold it down for Siri functions, and answer and end calls. It also features a 3.5mm headphone jack input so you can plug in your favorite non-bluetooth device as a source.
Let there be music!
The sound quality is fantastic! I was blown away by the amount of sound this little device can put out, it can easily fill an entire room with sound (think bedroom size)! I love the heavy mids and base; this easily blows the other bluetooth speakers I’ve owned out of the water!I was watching Netflix on my iPad connected to this little speaker and it sounded fantastic, the voices crips and the intro music loud with that deep base! My wife had to ask me to turn down the sound, and she was upstairs!
Oh, and remember how I wasn't thrilled about the design? The more time I spent with this speaker, the more I liked it! The handle makes it easy to carry around the house. With the round cylinder design, the sound isn’t directional, I can place this in the middle of the table and everyone would hear the sound equally.
Bose has done it again with this new bluetooth speaker. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good quality, versatile speaker. I can see this coming in handy for backyard BBQ’s, pool parties, camping or just sneaking off to a quiet room and catching up on Netflix shows. Battery life so far, is very good. I’ve used it several hours and it still tells me 60%.
Bose Revolve+ is a Versatile Bluetooth Powerhouse!
Battery life, Bluetooth, Portable
INTRODUCTION: The Bose Revolve+ Bluetooth Speaker is a Versatile Bluetooth Powerhouse! It is the Revolve's larger, more powerful sibling that offers deep, perfectly balanced, amazing sound!
SUGGESTION: Go for the optional Soundlink Revolve Charging Cradle. It is a charging stand with hidden wire management that eliminates the Revolve + external side-mounted USB cable. This allows for Bluetooth operation while charging.
1- Best sounding & most versatile Bluetooth speaker I have encountered
2- Water resistant IPX4 aluminum housing permits use outdoors for picnics, tailgating & parties
3- Lithium-ion battery provides steady power up to 16 hours to keep the party rocking! Battery percentage is announced by voice when power is turned on
4- Bluetooth & 3.5mm audio aux cable input for versatility
5- Bose Connect app makes connecting to multiple bluetooth devices a breeze with connected device voice identification
6- Built-in flexible carry handle makes carrying & hanging the speaker super easy. The handle folds out of sight for a clean look when not needed
7- Rubberized body will not slip out of your hands, even when wet
8- Master Power button with LED indicator keeps the Bluetooth, volume & other settings untouched when turned on / off & prompts voice status of settings
9- NFC on top of unit offers easy pairing with optionally equipped phones.
10- Hands-free telephone calls are so clear, they sound like the caller is in the room with you!
CONCLUSION: The Resolve + represents the GOLD STANDARD for BEST SOUND QUALITY in a portable Bluetooth speaker today!
The Bose SoundLink Revolve+ enters the market not only as Bose’s best bluetooth speaker ever, but also as the first true omnidirectional speaker of its product category. With beautifully powerful 360 degree sound, long lasting battery life, and a great looking design, the Bose SoundLink Revolve+ is an extremely well-rounded product that deserves the praise it has been getting.
SOUND QUALITY: Every time I listen to the Revolve+, it impresses me. The bass is solid, punchy, and deep, so it vibrates whatever surface it is placed on. Midrange is incredibly natural; vocals and orchestras sound vivid and lifelike. Treble isn’t perfect, but given the limitations of the cylindrical speaker design, it is still quite detailed and crisp.
The speaker sounds the best around 50-60% volume, where it has the most musical balance between bass, midrange, and upper frequencies. The Bose SoundLink Revolve+ is truly shocking loud. It can easily loudly fill small to medium sized rooms, and it is loud enough to almost fill an indoor basketball court with music, even with 30 or so people playing basketball. At maximum volume, the Revolve+ still performs impressively, but if you end up getting your hands one, I would suggest avoiding the last two notches of volume on your device, because they barely increase volume, and bass notes and treble become less defined. But that aside, the Revolve+ truly does sound incredible. I can’t even count how many people have complimented the speaker on how good it sounds.
Here’s a fun story: When I was staying home over spring break, I placed the Revolve+ in the corner of our living room, where my family’s theater speaker system is set up. I played some music, then asked my father how the speakers sounded and he shrugged, "Sounds great like it always does… why do you ask?". When I revealed to him that the powerfully deep bass notes and crystal clear vocals came from the small speaker in the corner and not the theater system, he was genuinely blown away… and he was the one who set up the theater sound system!
The Revolve+ is beautifully designed. It looks industrial and artful, and fits nicely in any setting. The aluminum body is rock solid (but is soft in texture like felt), and the buttons are nice, too. The soft-touch rubber bumpers provide drop protection, and the water resistance is also very reassuring. Over the past month, I carried the Revolve+ with me everywhere: to classes, to the gym, to hikes, and the aluminum body has not a single scratch. The built-in handle and tripod mount are also both great inclusions. When using the Revolve+ for personal listening, I found that it sounds the best mounted on a tripod, because it eliminates reflections from being placed on a surface.
The speaker connects to devices very quickly, and bluetooth range is about average: around 50 feet with no obstacles, and the range decreases if the signal must travel through walls or doors. The ability to pair two devices simultaneously, and the ability to wake up the speaker remotely through the Bose Connect app are both great touches.
Battery life is impressive. At half volume, the Revolve+ played just over 24 hours, so the Revolve+ actually over-delivers on its advertised battery life. There was no way for me to test how long it would last at maximum volume, but I would estimate it could last around six hours. Unless you rarely need to blast the speaker near maximum volume, the battery will easily last long enough to stretch one or two weeks.
VS. THE COMPETITION:
Bose Revolve+ vs. UE Megaboom: The Revolve+ is marginally louder, has significantly deeper and stronger bass, and significantly more detailed midrange and treble… the Megaboom sounds quite muffled in comparison. The Revolve+ is slightly shorter than the Megaboom, but also slightly wider, so size is roughly comparable. The Megaboom has an edge over the Revolve+ in that it is waterproof, rather than just water resistant.
Bose Revolve+ vs. JBL Charge 3: Both have similar levels of bass and volume. In terms of midrange and treble, it mostly just comes down to personal taste, but I personally find the Revolve+ to sound more natural. The Bose is slightly smaller and more portable, but the JBL has stronger waterproofing.
I would like to reiterate - the Revolve+ is really the only true omnidirectional speaker in its class (UE Boom models have speaker drivers facing opposite directions, and JBL bluetooth speakers have fire bass to the sides in opposite directions, and midrange and treble forward). This in itself gives it a huge advantage over its competitors. If you are looking for a speaker that would be great for group events, the Revolve+ is unmatched by any competing speaker.
In the last month or so of using the Bose SoundLink Revolve+, I have enjoyed using it to sing along to Ed Sheeran songs with my friends, party by blasting Kendrick Lamar’s new album, push myself through workouts in the gym and on the track, and sometimes just relax by myself. The Revolve+ is so good for so many purposes, I bring it with me everywhere. I hope my review was helpful to you!
We own several Bose products and enjoy them all with eyes-wide-open. They each have their strengths and weaknesses and we recognize that there is better sound out there. That said, Bose just has a knack for having great sound at a competitive price with above average build quality and customer service. Every product does well what Bose promises it does. Because of this reputation, we were excited to get this new Bose Revolve+ for use in our kitchen and out back by the pool. After just a few weeks with the speaker, we have fallen in love! Here is why...
The sound signature is excellent. It is deep and balanced while maintaining sufficient clarity even at higher volumes. The high notes sound natural with nothing harsh. Mids such as voices are projected forward and have a smooth tonal quality. The lows are tight, rhythmic and well extended. That said, the sound is not perfect. Those who are used to a sound quality that is found on speakers such as near field music monitors, will find the sound on this Bose to be a little too warm in sacrifice of accuracy. For many, the Revolve+, though Bluetooth, will be one of the best sounding speaker they will ever own.
The 360 degree sound projection is incredibly great. Set this speaker in the center of your space (indoor or out) and it will sound consistently well anywhere in the space. The sound also holds up when the speaker is placed near a wall. Surprisingly the wall helps reflect and project the sound. The sound changes but is not degraded.
The build quality is outstanding. The rubber bottom and top make the speaker feel nearly goof proof. It is built as though Bose expects this speaker to be taken everywhere. In my opinion, no case needed! The water resistance is something we have not yet tried but we would have no qualms about the speaker being caught in the rain or splashed with pool water.
Battery life is fantastic which is promised to be sixteen hours. The aux-in works great. Also, two Revolves can play the same music simultaneously in party mode. Or, two may be synced as left and tight channels. We cannot buy a second Revolve fast enough to use this feature! The connect app is simple and allows you to switch between paired devices and update the firmware on the speaker.
We own two other Bose Bluetooth speakers and this Revolve+ is the best by far. In fact we enjoy the sound signature (deep and dynamic) more than our Bose Solo 15 tv soundbar. It also has better clarity and tighter bass than our Bose Companion 2 Series III computer speakers. The Revolve+ sound is not as good but competes fairly well when compared to our Bose Companion 20 computer speakers, our SoundTouch 10 wifi system, and maybe even my beloved QC 15 headphones. Yes, we own them all :). Our only Bose product that is unequivocally night-and-day better than this Revolve+ is our Cinemate GS Series II home theatre system. I should hope so.
All this to say, the Bose Revolve+ can stand proud as having that rich signature Bose sound that is better than expected for a battery powered portable unit. The speaker has already found its proper place in our busy household. It may not be for everyone, but we expect to enjoy ours for years to come.
When you look at this initially it reminds me of a kettle ball. Upon firing it up the first time it asked what language I wanted. It is fluent in over a dozen languages. It then offered to pair with my iPhone and pairing was painless. Started up a streaming music service and I was immediately blown away not only by the volume but the depth of sound. I was not expecting it to have such a rich sound. When it connects it also gives you a status on your iPhone of the battery's charge. Download the app and you can see the percentage and control volume and music selection. You can also adjust the volume from the speaker in addition to pause and fast forward. It will also act as a speakerphone pausing the current song and allowing you to answer or ignore an incoming call. It worked for a call I took but I didn't ask about quality but no one on the other end complained. The product is well constructed and is not heavy compared to some I have handled. Probably the most important part of this is how well it holds a charge. So to put it through it charge paces, I started playing it at 9:15 in the morning while I was working in the garage. At 4:15 that afternoon I called it quits and it still had 85% charge! It outlasted me and my iPhone. As for charging, it has a power cord that plugs directly in or you can use the cradle and just pick it up and go.
This is my second purchase so now my Wife can play whatever she wants while I listen to
Jazz on the deck! We also like the ability to link the speakers to the same music source and of course there is THE SOUND! Excellent Purchase!
DISCLAIMER: In testing the device, I used a BT connection to a Samsung Galaxy S7.
This little BOSE Revolve+ Bluetooth (BT) speaker really packs a punch and provides sound from 360-degrees unlike most speakers. This is great for putting in the middle of a living room instead of having to put near a wall aiming outward at the room. Same goes for tailgating or ball park use - everyone can enjoy from all directions. The handle on the Revolve+ is also handy for carrying – a feature not on the smaller and regular Revolve unit. It is not an ideal-shaped item to carry without a handle.
1. I received the unit with 30% power. It took 2.5 hours to get to 100% which was shown by the BOSE Connect app. Connection to the app was simple. Though there is no NFC symbol on the unit, if you have an android phone with NFC capabilities, you can touch the phone to the top of the unit (where the BOSE logo is), and the 2 will link automatically. Great feature.
2. Settings in the app are simple. One of the features I immediately turned off was the lady voice that spoke every time I performed an action. You can also have it power off the unit after x number of minutes or never.
3. Volume is 2-fold. You can control the volume via phone/device or via the unit/app. Whichever you use, it’s good to turn up the volume to 100% on the volume option you choose NOT to modify.
4. The app has semi-control of the song you are listening to, depending on the app you are using. If using Pandora, it will show the song details at the bottom of the BOSE app. There, you can slide up the details and select pause/play or forward/skip. However, using an app that BOSE is not familiar with will show “unknown” as the song, and you won’t be able to control it (say, the WinAmp app). I imagine it will work well with most current web-based audio services.
5. 2 inputs on the rear-bottom of the unit are 3.5mm jack for analog input and a micro-USB port for charging. If using the charging cradle, the charging cord will go into the base instead of the unit itself.
6. Phone calls can be made, however when I did get a call on the device that was connected to the Revolve+, the music stopped; however, I had to hit the mode button in order for the BOSE to take over the audio call connection. I could hit the mode button again to talk on the phone itself. After the phone call was over, the music continued to play.
7. Volume can be controlled by the +/- buttons on the top of the unit or via the BOSE app.
I only have a JBL Charge speaker to compare it to, and the sound difference was worlds apart better in favor of the BOSE. It had decent bass along with the highs you would expect. A full spectrum of sound frequency was used and was very balanced overall.
The instruction booklet was mostly pictures and didn’t mention the AUX button on the top of the unit at all. I figured it out, but that’s something that was completely omitted from the instructions. Whichever you choose (BT or AUX), a small light beside each button will illuminate. A battery light will also light up next to the power button showing the estimated power remaining (>50% green) however the exact power is always shown on the BOSE app in 10% increments.
Overall, a great compact product that's portable, has a long battery life (~10 hrs), and sounds better than BOSE's other compact speaker systems in the Soundlink family.
Bose is always my top speaker to buy. I love collecting Bose Speakers .I can say this one is perfect, durability, and waterproof, very handy coz you can hang it too.. I’m really satisfied into it, and when it comes to speakers BOSE is aways number one to me.,,

Bose SoundLink Revolve Plus: Audio dynamite with a handle
The larger of Bose's new 360-degree "omnidirectional" Bluetooth speakers is expensive, but delivers impressive sound for its small size.Full Review
A:AnswerThe Revolve+ is the slightly-larger higher end model with 16 hours of battery life and louder, deeper sound, and the Revolve is the slightly smaller "lower end" (less-higher-end) model with 12 hours of battery life and slightly less loud sound. Both sound similar, both are water resistant. They are very similar speakers, but the Revolve+ is just a step better than the Revolve, in most aspects. Oh, and the Revolve+ has a handle for carrying.
A:AnswerHello Mark, our new Revolve products are designed for music on the go, they have impressive output and sound quality for their size. We'd recommend two of our Revolve+ speakers paired in party mode for a gathering of that size. Thanks for the question, have a great day!
A:AnswerHey there Broncoman, thanks for asking! The Revolve+ battery can be replaced by contacting our Support team and setting up a repair order for $75. Here's the link to phone and email options:
https://www.bose.com/en_us/contact_us.html. Hope this helps. Suzanne - Bose Support
A:AnswerHi JohnL, thanks for your question! The SoundLink Revolve+ Bluetooth speaker uses a Lithium-ion battery rated at 24.1 watt hours, or 4820 mAh. The Revolve+ would be safe to take on your flight. Just to confirm, the speaker would need to be stored in your carry-on bag. Have a great vacation! Jesse - Bose Support
A:AnswerHello Bentley, the Revolve+ is connected via Bluetooth, any audio or notifications will come through the speaker itself. You can adjust notifications in the settings of your phone or place it on "do not disturb" to avoid it pausing your music. Thanks for the question and have a great day!
Great question! Yes, you can absolutely plug the Revolve into a 220V power outlet. Thanks for checking and please let us know if you have any further questions!
Take care and enjoy your day,
A:AnswerHey Dougary, thanks for reaching out. You will not damage the battery if you leave the Revolve + plugged into charge or on the charging cradle indefinitely. Once the Revolve + is fully charged, the charger will stop charging the speaker. Have a great day. Sam - Bose Support
