This game sort of doesn't deserve 4 stars, but not all of its warts are the game's fault per se. First of all, the good: This is the best CoD in a few years, in my humble opinion. I'm obviously talking solely about multiplayer because What Is Call of Duty Campaign. It feels pretty solid, there's no more dashing/thrust packing/ice skating/wall running, and I like the way they've streamlined many of the perks and attachments. I feel less clueless when it comes to making a class with regard to what's best for my playstyle. Now, the bad: Because it's 2017, they had to add a Headquarters (think Destiny), which is a multiplayer hub of sorts that hogs resources and computing power. They've patched it since the game's launch, and it's better now, but it still doesn't need to exist. And, of course, because it's 2017, Loot Crates. Also, after playing Battlefield 1 most recently, I've come to realize CoD's sound design is terrible in comparison. My firearms feel and sound like pop guns. Lastly, campers still reign supreme in CoD. As mentioned above, this isn't the game's fault but rather the players who prioritize K/D over fun/actually playing the game. In any case, if you like CoD games, this is a known quantity, and it's worth picking up, especially if you share content with a friend. I would not recommend paying full price and expecting 100% satisfaction. Listen to more video game news & reviews on the 2v1 Podcast on iTunes. Thanks for reading! -Sworbachev

Campaign- The campaign is fun, though I feel the ending is a bit of a let down. Without spoiling, there are some events that happen that just felt forced, and to me the campaign would have been better off without them. Voice acting is good, and the campaign is worth replaying as it is refreshing thanks to it being a WWII genre. Couple more gripes with the campaign. I don't like that COD hasn't left its format of endless waves of enemy, and forcing you to rush up in order to stop the endless hords of enemy that will come out. It makes the game feel dated at times. Finally, some of the weapon drops after killing a German soldier are just inaccurate. I found more semi auto shotguns, or ppsh's than Kar 98's. I was actually really surprised how many ppsh's I found as it was a Russian SMG that the Germans didn't wildly use, not unless they took it off a dead russain. Online- Online is fun, and addictive at times. I like the different classes, and the perks of each. War mode is also a welcome addition to COD multiplayer. My only gripe is you really have to turn off your brain during multiplayer playing if you are an historical buff of WWII as it is about as accurate as the wonder Sean Connery James bond movies. Overall it is a fun game, and one that I am playing through again even after beating it. It gets 4 stars though due to some pretty outlandish historical inaccuracies that drive me nuts as a big buff of WWII weapons.

For the game itself...The graphics look great in the beginning and seem to become a bit more cartoonish than what they showed in the trailers. Definitely a lot of inserting female characters for the sake of equality (or pandering to the social climate). Some of the levels feel extremely isolating like the tank level. I feel like they should have told the whole story through one characters perspective and a shorter timespan as it seems to jump around too much for my taste. Brothers in arms is a great example of flow to a WW2 game. I like single player games to get immersed in the environment, so I didn't play much of the multiplayer. Ultimately I think they spread their resources around too much with multiplayer/zombies and the single player suffered. The sounds are great. Enemy animations are great. Im glad there are lots of troops running around to give you a sense scale but for some reason (I think the graphics) the maps can feel pretty narrow and lifeless. I hate to say it (as I enjoy the call of duty campaigns much more) but the graphics in battlefield 1 just felt much less cartoony and made landscapes feel larger. This game needed more dark grittiness like world at war. Having said all of this it is the best call of duty campaign since modern warfare 2. Just wish more time was focused on a very tight single player experience.

The campaign is more of a movie than game, except movies don’t have as many bugs. While the campaign was mostly acceptable (with exception to glitches), I couldn’t help but feel like I was watching a movie. The graphics are really good, which I understand is why the campaign is set up that way. However, while I do enjoy a good movie, I’d rather play the game. Multiplayer is all sorts of different, not necessarily in a good way. I haven’t played newer Call of Duty games until recently, and I must admit the multiplayer didn’t blow me away like it used to. COD points and supply drops have really put me on edge, made worse by the constant barrage of DLC content. There are also constant glitches that often interfere with gameplay, and it doesn’t seem like the developers are in a rush to fix them. In all, the online gameplay feels degraded when compared to older CODs, and doesn’t stand out too much from more recent CODs. To summarize, the campaign is a movie with lots of bugs and glitches, and multiplayer isn’t anything to die for. Unfortunately, unless something improves soon, I wouldn’t recommend this to anybody.

Every year, Activision promises some type of user-friendly revamp of the CoD franchise, and, well...look where that got us: INFINITE WARFARE. Naturally, hearing WWII would go "back to its roots" and return to "boots on the ground" action, yeah I was skeptical. But wow! They were right! This feels like it belongs back in the MODERN WARFARE and WORLD AT WAR era of the franchise! With just a dozen or so Scorestreaks available and perks/weapon upgrades spread out across different Leveling-Up components brings variety, balance, and competitiveness back to the game. HQ is also a welcome addition both as a social space and a way to provide a more interactive experience. Plus, the Scorestreak Training Ground is loads of fun! The only things preventing me from giving a 5-star review (again, MP only as I've not played Campaign nor Zombies) are that quickscoping is again problematic and there are too many times that the game doesn't immediately load you into a game (i.e. you start with your group but get stuck in "Spectating Mode" anywhere from 5 seconds to nearly an entire minute, which puts you at a disadvantage right off the bat).

WWII is a big departure from last year's Infinite Warfare. This game goes back to its roots and doesn't allow you to heal automatically (health packs are needed) in the campaign only. As true with other entries, the campaign is filled with big set pieces, celebrity voice-acting (though, the celebrities seemed paired down compared to previous games), and lots of choke points, where you will be tasked to clear enemies or get to a well defended objective while going it alone. Squadmates can be helpful in the campaign, but the Veteran difficulty setting will challenge the best FPS player. Online multiplayer is addictive. Contracts, short-timed objectives you complete for rewards, as well as Orders, day or week long missions you take on to receive experience or loot chests. will motivate you to play in different ways, with different load outs so that you can further your progression. Aiming and damage seems more random than previous games, so that gives encounters against enemies a feeling of chance. I've not played the Zombies mode yet, but I've heard it's well done. A fun entry into the long running series.

I believe this COD gets back closer to its original roots and away from catering to the kids. It is a fast-paced game and based on the smaller maps and open play areas, they have set this up to be a run and gun game and taken a lot of the camping abilities out of it due to so many lines of sight and the fact that places that should be dark, when viewed from a distance appear to be illuminated by spotlights - this, along with most maps being small and the limited number of maps on the initial release drop it a star in my book. I had virtually zero play on the last two releases due to their futuristic play. I like Halo, but that isn't what I was buying. This one takes you back. Quick-scoping has been nerfed a bit (good thing) but pistols still seem to have an awful lot of unrealistically, accurate range on them. Fun game, but I hope the map packs will accommodate the campers more. I am happier with a 10-1 KDR than a 18-10 with a higher score. Run and Gun isn't a realistic way of playing for me because there are no respawns in life, so that's the way I approach these games.
