It's just okay

Quality3 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I bought this to replace a clock-radio. I didn't read the entire description and found out after I got home that it has no clock. It does however do everything else it says it's supposed to do. I gave it 3 stars because the sound quality is not the greatest and I am not crazy about the volume function. It does have blue tooth but that's about it. Fortunately it wasn't expensive so maybe this is my lesson that you get what you pay for.

Cheap

Quality1 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use1 out of 5At first everything seemed ok but made cheaply, after a week or so of using it here and there the source button pushed in and won’t come out. So now it’s stuck on cd and nothing can be changed.

Adequate for small rooms or close outdoor settings
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendVolume is adequate for small rooms and for low noise outdoor settings in which all people are sitting within about 8 to10 feet of this "boom" box. This is the best reasonably priced battery operated unit offering such volume. (It does come with an AC adapter cord that can be attached and used). Would have been nice if it could recharge boombox batteries. It will recharge your MP3 player or other unit attached to its USB port, but only when boombox is connected to AC. This boombox's carry weight is not burdensome. The online description of this Insignia boombox, under specifications, list "Yes" for both Remote Control Included and Headphones Included. Neither, however, actually are included. When using its Bluetooth source, you can use your Bluetooth MP3 player or cellphone app player to control volume and change songs, playlists, etc. But, for AM and FM radio and CD you will need to use controls on the boombox.

Overpriced, but it does the job
|Posted .No, I would not recommend this to a friendThe styling fits nicely between "too-old-fashioned table radio" and "too-techno, too-portable" boom box. The sound is fine for a radio in this class and price range; you won't be impressed, but it is clear and loud enough, with good range. I'm not a heavy streaming music user, but the Bluetooth setup was as easy and functional as it is with any other device. Too be honest, I bought this mostly so that I could listen to the local news and weather while I fixed breakfast before work, and enjoy programs on NPR from my La-Z-Boy on the weekends. It does that just fine. Where it falls down is in the details, the "user experience". I generally have to press the power button 2 or even 3 times to get it to come on (this could be just my unit, but watch for it). The station presets are as easy to program as on any other radio, but there are no numbered buttons to recall them, just a single button that cycles through the stations. Take note that it only goes one way: if you're listening to preset 5 and you want to change to preset 3, you have to press the button at least 8 times: switch from 5 to 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, then start over back at 1, 2, and finally 3. Sometimes when I start that process, from preset 5, the display initially shows that I am on preset 5; other times, the first press reveals preset 1 and I have to start from there. The volume control is a round, knurled knob as you might expect, but it doesn't "rotate" to adjust the volume; you turn it a 1/4-turn to the right or left until it stops, then push it further to "click" and adjust the *digital* volume by one number, up or down. At least setting the time is as simple as it gets: there is no clock. For the price I paid, I was expecting a better design. As it is, it does what I need it to, and looks nice enough doing it, so I've kept it, and I'll put up with the interface quirks. It was just surprising, in this age of fairly uniform electronics control designs, to find these few idiosyncrasies.

Grandpa loves it
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendWe were looking for a simple to use, old school, boombox for my 94 year old Father-in-law. This one works just fine. There aren't a ton of confusing buttons and he can listen to his CD's without any frustration. There are only two issues - first, the markings on/near the buttons are very light grey and in tiny print (even I had to get my reading glasses to see what they said). Secondly, the sound is just mediocre. But, Grandpa was able to learn where the buttons he needed are, and as far as sound goes, well, he listens to really old music that doesn't have the high quality that would demand a good sounding speaker. Overall, it's a nice little boombox for him.
Q: QuestionWhich boom box is the best bang for your buck? Has to have good sound. Thank you
Asked by Tish.
- A:Answer At the time, Best Buy had three price ranges to choose from and the Insignia boombox was in the middle. I think that this is the best bang for your buck. I have this in my kitchen which is large, and the sound is pretty good. It's not the top of the line sound, but very good.

Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer No, it does not.. For the most part its a pretty old school boombox. We bought it for our son to play his cd's on.. Nice feature is the bluetooth but as for sound its pretty generic nothing special. Gets the job done.
