Synopsis

Cedar Rapids
A childlike insurance salesman discovers his inner grown-up in this comedy from director Miguel Arteta and producer Alexander Payne. Tim Lippe (Ed Helms) sells insurance for a living. He's passionate about his career, so when the top salesman at the company dies on the eve of a big industry convention in Cedar Rapids, IA, his boss, Bill (Stephen Root), decides that Tim should take the trip to represent their company, and possibly accept a major award. Trouble is, not only has Tim never been on an airplane before, but he's in such a state of arrested development that he's even started sleeping with his former elementary school teacher Mrs. Vanderhei (Sigourney Weaver). Arriving at the convention ready to put his best foot forward, Tim hits it off with his hotel roommate Ron (Isiah Whitlock Jr.), but is soon thrust out of his comfort zone when he learns they will be sharing a room with their amoral, hard-partying colleague Dean (John C. Reilly), whom Tim has been instructed to avoid at all costs. Later, when the three unlikely roommates meet up with fellow insurance slinger Joan (Anne Heche), the chemistry just clicks. However, when the ultra-conservative president of the entire organization (Kurtwood Smith) catches Tim in a compromising position, it all starts to fall apart. Now, if Tim can just shed his illusions and finally see the truth about the people he always looked up to, perhaps he can find the courage to recapture his integrity, and return home and face the future with a newfound sense of self-assurance. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I'll start by saying this is one FUNNY movie! Its about an average insurance salesman, Tim Lippe (played by Ed Helms) that is sent to a business convention in Cedar Rapids Iowa. He meets up with a few other agents that are quite the characters and this is where the mild comparison to Hangover takes place. Drinking, partying and other activities start and you've got to see the movie to find out the rest of it including the ending. Highly enjoyable if you like this genre of movie.

Any blu-ray I have seen has been pretty great as far as picture and sound quality and Cedar Rapids is no exception and it has a decent set of special features, but those no longer hold as much appeal to me as they once did; therefore, the story and characters are what I base my rating on most here, and this was a funny and touching quasi-realistic/plausible comedy about a nice guy around forty experiencing the way of the world outside of his own community for the first time.

A little darker than I expected, but still good.

An overall good movie about a small town guy who goes to"the big city" Cedar Rapids for a conference. I liked the character development and there were some hilarious scenes, but they pushed the envelope in a few scenes. John C Reilly really made this movie, delivering one of his best performances as a rough and raunchy insurance salesman who is looked down on by others at the conference but has some redeeming qualities.

Shoot was dope. I mean what can I say? Ed Helms is a great dude. Kind of sucks they didn't actually film it in Iowa. On the other hand, have you been to Iowa? Iowa? No, You-wa! You take your wooden sign posts and your Hawkeye vodka and get out! Old Milualkee, it's Davenport's favorite!

I finally found this movie on blu ray...in your discount bin no less! This movie is a hidden treasure in my book. Not hilarious throughout, but parts of it I find hysterical. John C. Reilly is great in this flick. I enjoy it..I don't think many people have seen it.

Cedar Rapids is not the funniest comedy and it's not a great movie, but it's a likable, pleasant and fun movie. If you want a movie for a first date where you don't know the other person's likes and dislikes, this might be a good "starter" movie.

Cedar Rapids is one of those offbeat movies that may not be for everyone, but it is well written and features a great cast. I laughed all the way through and I also thought it had a warmth that could have been missing from a comedy like this!

Thought this movie would be about something else but was pleasently surprised. Some really funny moments and some cringe worthy moments. 2 very funny actors in Ed Helms and John C Reily make a great team.
