SHOULD have been 5 stars!
|Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendSo, why isn't it? Lack of digital copy? No... at the low prices RLJE releases their films at, (the incredible Mandy (also starring Nic Cage going back-to-back in his frantic best since Vampire's Kiss for RLJE,) and Bone Tomahawk being other must-owns from them,) it's become standard for their films to bypass this feature. A true shame, because of how good their films have been. The loss of a star is simpy due to the lack of HDR in a film that demands it- "color" is right in the title. The film itself, the performances, the FX, music... ALL of it is 5 star material, otherwise. For those unfamiliar, COOS is based on an HP Lovecraft story, and he's often been given some great treatments, and COOS may be the best yet. (The story has been given several film treatments, and if you enjoy 80s horror, the film, The Curse, was also based on COOS). A meteor falls in the backyard of Cage and his family's isolated cabin, and a plethora of strangeness begins- from strange smells, the disappearance of the meteorite, voices from their well, mutations to animals, loss of time... from madness to body horror, COOS has everything in place to bring the creepy vibes. The film did more than bring Nic Cage's crazy voice from Vampire's Kiss back, it also brought director Richard Stanley out of a 2 decade long retirement, who has stated this is the first in an HP Lovecraft trilogy, with The Dunwich Horror on deck next. One can hope he handles each of the next films with such care, and if so, HP Lovecraft fans are in for a real treat.

Colors of oddity
|Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendCrazy alien activity, insane Nic Cage acting, and H.P. Lovecraft? Oh and not to forget alpacas. Get ready for a weird and bizarre feature with this one. Very odd and very off the wall. The colors are gorgeous and truly pop while the story is so odd but keeps you glued to the screen. Nic Cage is Nic Cage as he allows his madness to shine lol

A competent accompanying film to Mandy
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendNot quite on the same level as Mandy but definitely in the same trippy/out there style of filmmaking. The colors look very vibrant in HDR. Worth a look at around 12 bucks.

Cage at his Cageiest
|Posted .Owned for 7 months when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendNic Cage is VERY hit or miss for me, but this is THE PERFECT role for him. The movie is very moody and original and weird. It won’t be for everyone, but if you like Lovecraft, you’ll probably find this to be the most entertaining Lovecraft adaptation outside of Stewart Gordon.

Fun, if somewhat flawed, flick!
|Posted .Owned for 5 months when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendHaving been a Richard Stanley fan for some time, I was pleasantly surprised and intrigued when I heard he came out of retirement to make this film. I wouldn't say it's as good, or in the same ballpark, as his earlier films like Hardware or Dust Devil, but it was still a fun b-movie. Despite lacking HDR, it still looks great in 4K, and delivers yet another fun over-the-top performance from Nicholas Cage. Worth a look!
