    Synopsis

    Daredevil
One of Marvel Comics' most popular characters comes to the screen for the first time in this sci-fi action-thriller. Matthew Murdock (Ben Affleck) is a lawyer whose father, a prizefighter, was killed by gangsters when Murdock was just a boy. Since then, Murdock has devoted his life to bringing wrongdoers to justice and is willing to help others by taking on cases no other attorney will touch. Murdock is also blind, after being struck down by a truck while trying to save a man from being hit. What no one knows is that Murdock was also doused with an unusual radioactive isotope which had a strange effect on him -- while Murdock's sight may be gone, his other senses have been raised to such a keen pitch that they act like radar, allowing him to tell where he's going and what happens around him, both near and far away. Murdock puts his gifts to use at night as the costumed crime-fighter Daredevil, whose pursuit of justice has earned him the wrath of underworld leader Kingpin (Michael Clarke Duncan). Kingpin wants Daredevil out of his way once and for all, and hires Bullseye (Colin Farrell), a super-assassin with an uncanny ability to throw blades, to do the job. Daredevil also makes the acquaintance of Elektra Natchios (Jennifer Garner), a woman with super-heroic talents who is also on Kingpin's bad side, though it remains to be seen if she has aligned herself with the forces of good as Daredevil has done. Jon Favreau, Joe Pantoliano, and David Keith highlight Daredevil's supporting cast. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

I thought that it was fairly spot-on as far as Affleck's portrayal of DD & his alter-ego, that the story was solid, as was the direction. Considering how Jennifer Garner could do all sorts of convincing accents from her stint on ALIAS, I had hoped that she would have a slightly Greek accent for her Elektra character and that there would be a bit more to her back-story from the comics, but the filmmakers didn't go in that direction (an opportunity which was further lost by muddying her story in the movie ELEKTRA). When Daredevil was made, audiences seemed to unfairly judge DD through the entertainment press' obsession with Jennifer Lopez' private life which included Affleck at the time. This extended director's cut improves on the theatrical version, Yes, this film does not compare to the Netflix TV series, but it it far better than ELEKTRA, which should be avoided in addition to CATWOMAN with Halle Berry.

I haven't been able to watch this yet. I bought the blu ray, and it would freeze up my player when I tried to watch it. I returned to the store where I purchased it and was told that I could exchange it since it was defective ... but oh wait! They didn't have any in stock and didn't plan on getting any more. I asked whether it could be returned and they said no, due to a law (not a Best Buy policy). I later went to another Best Buy, where they actually TESTED the blu ray (didn't happen at the first store) and found that it was defective. They did have another one in stock and quickly replaced it (but told me that if they didn't have any that I would be allowed to return it for a refund since it was a defective disc ... the rep even seemed shocked when I told him about my experience at the other store). So, I haven't watched the blu ray yet, and almost didn't get to if I had just stuck with what the first Best Buy told me.

Director's cut of Daredevil is the one to watch. It's a 2003 American superhero film written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson. Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, the film stars Ben Affleck as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer who fights for justice in the courtroom and out of the courtroom as the masked vigilante Daredevil. Jennifer Garner plays his love interest Elektra Natchios; Colin Farrell plays the merciless assassin Bullseye; David Keith plays Jack "The Devil" Murdock, a washed up fighter and Matt's father; and Michael Clarke Duncan plays Wilson Fisk, also known as the crime lord Kingpin.

I am a huge Batman fan, and have been going through the Ben Affleck movie collection since he was cast as the newest Caped Crusader. I had seen bits and pieces of this movie over the years, and while none of it gave me motivation to see the rest, I had read positive things about the director's cut of this movie. There are some quality components here (Affleck, Favreau, Michael Clark-Duncan) but Bullseye, terrible music, and poor direction overshadow them. Hopefully the new Daredevil series on Netflix can learn from this movie's mistakes.

In my personal opinion, this movie was underrated. It's not great, but better than most people gave it credit for. Its a little darker and and grittier than other comic book movies were at the time but still had its fair share of cheesy moments. If you can look past those. It's a decent movie. Michael Clarke Duncan and Ben Affleck were good but i wasn't a big fan of Colin Farrell and his character in this movie. But over all if you like movies like this, I recommend it. Especially if you get it for $8 or less :)

It's far from the greatest Marvel movie, but nowhere near deserving of the scorn heaped upon it. Affleck's Daredevil is angry and homicidal, and Michael Clarke Duncan's Kingpin is one I wish I got to see more of. Jennifer Garner's Elektra is solid, too. The CGI hasn't aged well and Bullseye is a weak villain, but it's still enjoyable. For Marvel completists, this is the version to own, a bit more violent than the theatrical cut.

It gets a bad rap, but I thought it was decent. Michael Clark Duncan was awesome as the Kingpin and Ben Aflek makes a great Matt Murdock. One problem is that it sometimes seems like a long Evanescence music video. But if you're like me and like the band, you'll let it slide. And for $6, how do you go wrong?

This move has a lot of haters. A WHOLE LOT of haters. I'm not one of them. I've enjoyed it since it's initial release, with my only complaint being the casting of the Ben Urich character. Maybe it was the silly beret he wore, lol. If you did enjoy the theatrical release, you'll be very pleased with the Director's cut which not only has plenty of additional footage, but a recut ending -- a very nice surprise indeed.
