Makes great espresso but design weakness

This machine can make great espresso and is really good at frothing milk for cappuccino/lattes IF you read the manual. Once you understand the buttons & process and know how to adjust water temperature, etc you can customize this machine to do a great job. However, I returned it because of design issues. 1. Even if you are right handed the control for the steam frothing is immediately above the place you will be holding the pitcher/jug. Reaching for this with your left hand when the frothing is strong & milk is hot is awkward at best and dangerous if not careful. If you are left handed forget it. 2. The portafilter/basket design makes it difficult to clean out immediately after making a double shot and wanting to make a 2nd quickly. Compared to our old machine which had a hinged mechanism to hold the basket in the portafilter while hitting it to extract the used coffee, this design uses a spring to hold the basket in the portafilter. The spring is strong enough to make putting the basket in difficult, but not strong enough to hold it when you hit it to extract it.The machine is incredibly compact neat, looks great, and is quiet! Unfortunately it was just too awkward to make two double espresso/lattes quickly in a morning.

The espresso is OK but the default setting for amount of water is nearly double that of traditional Italian espresso. We just tap the button again when it reaches 2 oz but you can change the setting with a programming change. It takes some adjustments to get it all right so don't expect a perfect cup the first few times. (Even the instructions say that!) Was NOT impressed by the quality of the "stainless steel". With a lightly abrasive (not metallic) sponge we scratched the heck out of the drip tray cover the first time we cleaned it. That's pretty absurd and now ugly. It's too late to turn back but I guess we'd consider something a step up from this. The double espresso holds about 14g of coffee max, so if you want to really go 16-18g, that's unlikely to happen. Too fine a grind and the machine struggles to send water through and you get a slow drip. The plastic tamper is lame considering the price. Also, we are a bit doubtful of the durability of the rubber nozzle inside the frothing wand.

I have been drinking coffee for 15 years. In all that time I have never owned an espresso machine, just all the fancy ways to brew, pour over, french roast etc. so I was excited to purchase this item. When reviewing it seemed well like, reasonably priced, and effective at making quality espresso. I received it last night, this morning I followed the easy start instructions and WHAMMY, great tasting latte right out of the gates. I didn't play with coffee grind, temps, none of that and it was very good. I even used a simple cheap grinder to grind the beans, I don't even know how to properly tamp a shot. I know there is a long ways I can go to perfect the art of espresso, but with how good the first shot was, I may not have any motivation to get better. All said, wonderful machine, simple to operate, great fit in my kitchen, good looking. Really couldn't be happier with this product.

Great but would appreciate an open basket, as it is very sensitive to how you compress grounds. If you tamp even a little bit too hard, no coffee comes out. Combo tamper and spoon is unusable, really. Also a long wait for it to cool back down to brew temp after steaming milk, so if you need to do more than 1 or 2 at a time, you’re either waiting for the machine to cool, or using cool coffee with hot milk. But for the price it has an excellent heater, a good steamer, and makes superb coffee after a bit of a learning curve.

Right out of the box, this makes amazing espresso, and it is so easy to use. From just straight espresso to lattes or cappuccinos, you can make it all so easily that you will want to use this every day. I have to restrain myself simply because I like to use Starbucks coffee, which is pretty expensive. I would like to try the little pods that you can use with this machine, though. The only problem I have with it is that it is difficult to gauge how much coffee to put into the little holder, because if you put too much it is nearly impossible to close it up.

I used the DeLonghi Dedica EC680 machine at a friends house and was pleased with the results of the coffee it produces. I did additional research anyway to see if there was something better on the market. After that consideration, I went with this machine as well since it has a small footprint, fairly easy to clean, and straight forward to use. Certainly doesn't have all the bells and whistles as other espresso machines, but does the job and has a frother when needed. Overall please with the machine with about a months usage.

I drink coffee everyday, and have for years. I used french press, pour over, auto machines etc. I am no snob when it comes to coffee, but I can discern great from terrible. The shots pulled by this machine were creamy and tasteful right out of the gate. No real learning curve on this machine. I will say I need help at becoming a milk frothing expert, but a few youtube videos and I'm sure I will make some progress. Anyhow, sharp looking machine, nice compact size, great shot's right out of the box.

I got this item thinking it would not be as good as some of the much more expensive types, but I was surprised it actually is a very good machine for the price. The coffee taste great - I buy espresso beans through Starbucks and the coffee taste just as if I was at Starbucks. Though I would have given it 5 stars had it come with a full metal tamper but it does come with a cheaply made plastic one :( Would have expected better but it is what it is... The DeLonghi Dedica EC680 is designed for people who love coffee made from grounds, but don't have the space for a large coffee machine. It's the same size as a capsule machine, and this slim design makes it perfect for even the smallest kitchenFull Review
