Bought a pair to improve my TV sound in living room without dropping about $8,000 plus on new 5.1 HT setup including (5) Martin Logan in-ceiling speakers, Denon HT AVR, Martin Logan sub and Apple TV (not including labor) to install in my pre wired 22’ x 34’ living room. Obviously a pair of top notch 3-way speakers like these are not going match up on movies but this stereo pair blows away the same set up I have in HT room upstairs (7.1 since I have height speakers there). Even with excellent sub in that system that 2.1 mode just doesn’t compare, not the fault of Martin Logan’s folded tweets, great mids and subwoofer, it’s the receiver. You’d need to drop some serous cash for a stereo amp and receiver $$$$ to get the same sound this pair of Phantom Is put out in stereo. I’ve never had best of both worlds with an HT receiver. I can’t imagine what the 108 db with 14 Hz vs 16 Hz low end and 1100 watts would be…crazy loud and even deeper bass, I’m sure it would sound like a night club in my house. This pair is more than enough for home use so save the extra $1,000 per speaker. As for using them in movies and music, they are more than twice the price better than spending over $2,000 on a Sonos Arch Ultra and Sub 4. I tried for two weeks to love that Sonos set up but the bass was so weak and music sounded terrible, no matter what setting you tried. On these Phantoms in a stereo pair, the rumbles and thumps in movies really come through now. And as I’ve said listening to music they are excellent and yes high-end. They blow way my Monitor Audio Platinum bookshelf setup with a sub. Mostly because each speaker has its own sub down to 16 Hz. But mids and tweets are so close on quality and thats with Monitor using ribbon tweeters versus 103 db using aluminum. Only draw back and it does bug me, is not having eArc HDMI option to these like on the Dione bar Devialet makes. Having to use the optical out on TV to one of the Phantoms means you use the Devialet remote for volume but since each Phantom I has one included I have one on coffee table and one I can take to kitchen or nearby rooms to adjust or just use the iOS app which is a very good app, way better than Denon’s which is why I use an Apple TV as remote and to control my HT set upstairs with a single remote. Seriously Devialet, upgrade the inputs on Phamtom to include a micro HDMI in (space saving) and motherboard to support eArc connection so you can use TV remote or Apple TV to control volume too. Also, while you’re at it, since the wired Phantom sends the other channel’s signal wirelessly to the other speaker why can you the programming and board to do the same for surround channels and center? That would boost your sales. Don’t seem to have any problems with delay in stereo mode (although I did go into set up to adjust so TV signal and voices matched up, easy on the app) So expensive yes, but build quality and performance justify price point. Add to that flexibility, when entertaining I just move the speakers to patio or kitchen or anywhere I have plug or extension cord. I’d recommend them for minimalist setups, streaming, TV watching and 2.2 stereo listening room and if you have the cocoon when you stay and an Airbnb take one with you. Note - I’m currently using the Legs stands but those are for Phantom IIs not these Phantom Is so had to order the Treepods.

So what does a modern day minimalist pure sounding audio system include and/or look like? For starters, it includes a pair of Devialet Phantoms. For years I have been "hearing" these acoustically pure technological masterpieces. It got to the point whereby I would walk into a restaurant or store and immediately know without looking up that Devialet's were playing. I didn't know personally anyone who had owned a pair so I had never listened them in a controlled home listening environment. And I didn't, wouldn't, couldn't pull the trigger on purchasing them until I was forced. After all they are expensive. But I had a new home listening environment, and minimalist desires that my wife and I both agreed too. It was a costly and challenging endeavor. But worth every penny! More challenging though was the fact that I had to break the conventional mindset of what a traditional sound system looked like. I have been in pursuit of the best sounding, fully featured audio system that I would be willing to spend the money on for 40 years. FYI I had already owned all of the other equipment listed below. If one could, and many have, you would just purchase the best of the best at any cost. But history has proved that that doesn't get you the best sounding system. It's all so subjective anyway. So the mission became to reinvent "my vision" of what a modern, exceptional sounding, fully functional minimalist audio system should look like in 2022, and what components it should include. Here is my take on it... Fortunately these items are all available at Best Buy (or should be) with generous financing offers: 1. Devialet Phantom 103db (the sweet spot in their lineup) 2. Phantom Stands (treepod stands are beauties) 3. Yamaha WXC-50 ( to broaden connectivity) 4. Technics SL- 1500c 5. Apple TV (optional). 6. A DVD player. 7. 2 Optical cables. (one for LG TV out, one for Yamaha out) 8. LG OLED TV 9. 2 HDMI cables 10. BDI Console 11. Panamax Power Line Conditioner Subscriptions: Apple Music Tidal Music (via devialet software app) Roon (via devialet software app)

Extremely satisfied with overall sound quality and Bass Pressence. Makes the whole house want to get up and dance! Even the Octagenarians got up and danced at our New Year’s party!!! Worth every penny!!! Subterranean Bass shakes the whole house better than dedicated subs. Planning on getting another for a stereo pair. Goegeous design as well! A feast for the eyes, ears and body!
