Intelligent heat control
Regulates the temperature of the plates 100 times a second, ensuring you never exceed your chosen temperature.
Less heat, half the damage:
Flexing plates gather your hair for more control, so you can achieve the same style with less heat and 50 percent less breakage1. Dyson recommends styling with a heat setting below what you normally use.
Flexing Plates
The only straightener with flexing plates that shape around your hair, gathering it neatly together on each pass. By gathering hair for more control, this allows for a lighter grip when styling.
Ready to style when you are
With 90 percent battery charge in just 40 minutes, using the magnetic charging cable or dock.
Extend run time
Place in the dock when not in use and in between sections to extend run time. The OLED screen and chime will indicate that your machine is charging properly.
Key sounds
Chimes to indicate your machine is heating up, chosen temperature reached, low battery, empty battery, charging, idle mode and service alerts. To turn off the prompt sounds, mute by holding the power and temperature buttons for 5 seconds.
Styling Tips:
Prep hair: Before styling, ensure hair is detangling and completely dry. For best results, section hair.
Temperature: Begin at a medium heat (365O F) and adjust up or down depending on your hair type and texture.
Loosen grip: Because the flexing plates shape to gather your hair, you can loosen your grip when styling, letting the machine do the work for you.
Style speed: Flexing plates allow you to style hair in one, slow pass vs. multiple quick passes. To slow down your movements, try using one second per inch as a baseline. Speed may vary by hair type.
Tress size: The perfect tress size will depend on your hair type. Try a few different section sizes and see what works best for you. If you have coarse hair, begin with a smaller section. If you have fine hair, try larger sections for a smoother glide.
Position of tress: To maximize the benefits of the flexing plates, ensure your tress is in the middle of the plates when styling.
Styling your ends: If you have fine hair, it may be difficult to style your ends. For a smooth glide, try styling the roots and mid-lengths of hair first, and style the ends last so you can take larger sections of hair. This allows the flexing plates to fully gather the section of hair.

It's nice, but probably not for long hair...
Posted .I have long (mid-back/hip length) curly 3B hair. I used this fully charged on the lowest setting after my hair had dried in a large braid. It took many passes to get the hair straight and it took a while as it usually would given my length. The unit is pretty heavy and after a while, you really start to notice it, so if you have less hair or shorter hair this would be less of an issue. As the full charge was still not enough to complete my whole head I can also say I am not a fan of using this corded. I felt that the short time I tried to use it with the cord was very difficult and cumbersome, the cord easily disconnected while trying to use it for the small section left at the top of my head. As I wear my hair naturally curly often, I can at least say my hair is very shiny (partially my own fault as I take care of my hair) and it doesn't smell as burnt as much as other irons I have used. I do plan to touch up my hair on the next highest setting but doubt I would use it on high even with a thermal protectant. Overall this is a nice iron for travel and touchups for shorter or less course hair. As it seems to be less damaging I still like it and will use it, just probably cordless.

Price High, but product is AMAZING
Posted .Okay, so I was both “Wow!” and “wah-wah” with this straightener. Wow! - I was so impressed with the packaging first. It comes with a stand to place the tool on, which is genius. Then it has a velvet wrap for travel or just general storage — super smooth idea. Then, the flexing plates on it are like magic. I don’t even need to curve the iron and it still flexes to give my hair that curve on the ends. There is also no “burning hair” smell as with most normal flat irons, and I am able to get it right at the base of my hair(scalp) for a legit smooth straighten. The wireless feature is GREAT and so useful not to have to finagle with the cord repeatedly. Love these things the most about this! Wah-wah - Okay, it only goes up to 410 degrees and for many black woman with 4C hair we need closer to 450 degrees. Thus I did have to also hook up my other straightener which has the greater level of heat to do the job. Secondly, as some other reviewers noted, the battery life is not great at all. I had to keep turning the temperature back up every 20 minutes or so because it would turn off at a certain time. Not a huge thing but it gets to be pretty repetitive and annoying to have to do. It can also come across a bit bulky because the cord is like a huge charger, so you would need a lot more room than a normal flat iron if you want to travel with this. Speaking of travel, this also has an “airplane flight mode” feature because of the lithium battery I believe. If you set this, you can place the iron in your carry-on luggage. I probably won’t use it, but if you need it, it’s there. Overall, this is an amazing hair tool — not sure if I would place it worth the price point because it’s a bit high, but it is definitely a clear step ahead of most standard straighteners.

Pretty nice, but not perfect
Posted .Pros mentioned:Design, Heat, PriceI would truly rate this at 3.5 stars, but since I had to pick a whole number for the rating, and because Dyson really did put some engineering thought into this design, I gave it 4 stars. To start off, the packaging of this straightener is well done. I LOVE that it comes with the heat-resistance pouch – which feels to be of very nice quality. Dyson really did put some engineering thought into the design of this device with the flexing plates, the intelligent heat control, the Flight-ready tag, the options to charge the straightener via the cord or the charging dock, and the magnetic connections for the cord and dock. The straightener itself is aesthetically nice and appears to be well made, but it is very heavy. If using as a professional hair stylist, I could see the weight of this being an issue for some people. As for the functionality of this straightener, overall it works very well. The straightener needs to be charged before its initial use, but it doesn’t take very long to charge it enough for some cord-free use. Once powered on, it prompts you to select a temperature setting. With my hair type, I had to use the highest setting (410F) and I couldn’t believe how quickly it heated up – it’s wicked fast! Straightening my hair went perfectly. The cordless capability is extremely nice; with not having to worry about maneuvering a cord around. My hair is very long and dense, and moderately thick, and I was able to straighten it fairly quickly without ever having to reconnect the charging cord. As for curling my hair, that is where some of the design flaws of this straightener really jumped out to me. It typically takes me a little over an hour to curl my hair. (It takes about an hour if done by a professional.) With that in mind, while the curved design of this straightener makes it perfect for the versatile use of curling hair, the battery doesn’t last long enough to do the entire job cord-free. For people with mid to short hair, this may not be an issue, but it was for my hair length and type. While curling my hair, I would place the straightener on the charging dock in between long pauses of curling, and the (fully-charged) battery lasted 35 minutes before it died. (Keep in mind this is at the highest temperature setting.) I was able to connect the cord to continue curling in the “hybrid-mode” but I noticed that the straightener didn’t seem to maintain the highest temperature it was set to, apparent by the sudden change in the shape of my curls – they were much flatter. I also had the issue of the straightener powering off due to the dead battery, even though it was connected to the cord. (It was as if the straightener was draining the battery faster than the supplied power could charge it.) I let it the straightener set, and only charge, for about 5 minutes and was then able to finish curling my hair without it powering off. This leads me to what I feel is a fairly big design flaw with this straightener. Why not design this to have interchangeable, rechargeable battery packs that can be swapped out when the other dies? I’m sure part of the reason it wasn’t designed that way was cost, but if you’re already willing to invest this much into a straightener, I’m sure the additional costs would not be enough to deter you from purchasing this device. Overall, this is a very nice straightener. The quality and engineering features are true to Dyson’s product goals. Unfortunately for me, this straightener did not check all the boxes for me to love it, but I do think it could for many people with mid to short hair. Last, I would like to address why, “I would not recommend this to a friend.” Purchasing this straightener is truly an investment, which for most people I would not recommend making. If the features of this straightener were to work perfectly for a friend of mine, who would definitely use this every day, then I would probably recommend it. Unfortunately I don’t feel that its capabilities can justice the cost at this time.

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:Design, Ease of use, HeatLike everyone else I was very skeptical about an straightener that costs $499! I did a lot of research, watched a ton of videos. But still waited. After I bought the blow dryer and loving it I started to look into this more. I finally took the plunge and I don't regret it. I LOVE this flat iron. And I have used many.. From chi to GHD. This blows all of them out of the water. It is worth the price First the technology is subpar. You will not find any flat iron as good as this one. It has consistent heat. You do not get any creases when you curl your hair. I have tried and tried to get pretty curls from other flat irons. And never had luck . Until now. My hair just glides through so smoothly and I get beautiful bouncy curls. The first time I used it to curl my hair I almost thought it didn't work because there was no tugging or snagging my hair like other irons. And I don't have to go over them over and over again to get them right either. My hair has so much shine too I believe over time , like the blow dryer, I will have less damage because of how this is made and you don't have to run it through a million times. And I get done faster too. Before it would take me at least 30 min to curl. Now only 15! I have heard a lot of people comment about the weight of the iron. And the first time I picked it up I thought wow this will be to heavy to work with. But being that it is cordless , the weight works to its benefit. It makes it a lot easier to get a good grip and since it glides through so easily the weight isn't even a issue. The charge holds for a good amount of time too The 15 min it takes me to curl my hair I still have 60% charge on the battery. If you can invest in this tool you will not be disappointed! Thank you Dyson

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I was like a kid on Christmas. I opened the box and put it together quickly and easily. After I charged a bit, I was ready to play. I usually get keratins to make my hair frizz free but I may never need another one again. This is amazing. My hair is so soft and silky. I’ve attached a picture. I have the hairdryer and the Airwrap also. Dyson never disappoints.

Q: Questioni have a 6 year old $12 straightener that i've used almost daily. it does the job very nicely. i always get compliments on my "beautiful hair". what in the WORLD do you think makes this thing worth $500? you've got to be kiddng.....
Asked by otherworld.
- A:Answer Difference is the technology. Your $12 straightener uses ceramic coated plates, whereas our Dyson product uses state of the art plates made by NASA.... This technology allows your hair to flow smoothly through the plates, creating no damage or pull with the right amount of heat and neons within the plates coat your hair with nutrients for vibrate shiny hair.

Q: QuestionHi, is it normal that my dyson arrived in a non-sealed package? Does it mean it could have been a used one? Also, is it normal that it makes a high frequency sound while charging using a stand?
Asked by asya.
- A:Answer no. i would say it's not normal that it came in a non-sealed package. mine was all sealed up. i would return it right away. it sounds like it was definitely pre used...only imo. several people complain about the sound, so I'm guessing it's normal. mine makes it every time i charge it. very annoying but it is what it is i guess. hope this helps!
