Synopsis

Enemy Mine
Love means never having to say that you're ugly in the extravagant fantasy film Enemy Mine. Earthling Dennis Quaid is Davidge, one of many space warriors engaged in a bloody extraterrestrial battle against the Draconians. Crash-landing on a faraway planet, Davidge is forced into an "up close and personal" with the Drac (Lou Gossett Jr.), a repellant, reptilian creature. Evidently a bivalve, the Drac gives birth to a baby Drac just before expiring. Now a reluctant foster father, Davidge tries to keep himself and the baby alive while the war continues to rage all around them. The special effects (courtesy Industrial Light and Magic) are serviceable if not brilliant, and the acting is okay so far as it goes. What socks over Enemy Mine is Rolf Zehetbauer's awe-inspiring production design and Chris Walas' superb makeup work. Though a favorite on home video, the film deserves to be seen on a wide theatre screen. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Region B does not play on U.S. players.

First off, the film itself is great. I was excited to find it and own it on blu-ray. To my disappointment, when it arrived the disc was a region B disc. Which won't play on my blu-ray player. You would think including the region letter would be an important detail for the seller to disclose in the item description. Apparently, the seller thought it was not. Therefore, I shall be returning it to get a refund. I write this review to warn other perspective buyers. Most blu-Ray players produced for consumer use in the U.S. Can only play Region A discs. A lot of import discs are Region B. However, I have found some that are All region which will play on Region A players. I figured this would be the case with the disc here due to the positive reviews even though the description code did not list the region code. I bought it on faith and I was wrong. Even a simple photo of the back of the disc box provided by the seller would have made me avoid making this purchase. Therefore, I shall provide one myself. If you own a player that can play all regions, then it will be a great buy since the Twilight Time issued U.S. version is no longer in print due to selling out of the 3,000 copies produced.

Having loved this movie for many years, you can imagine my excitement at being able to own it on Blu Ray. It's a really great story with a fabulous performance by Louis Gosset Jr. Buy it and enjoy it.

Louis Gossett Jr was an awesome alien in this movie. Played the part with such ease. Saw it at the drive-in theater when it debuted. A must see if you truly like sci-fi movies.

Kind of a typical 80's space movie. The computer graphics leave a lot to be desired. The basic story is OK, but predictable.

This is an old sci-if movie that still is fun to watch. The story is a good one and the actors do a fine job. The only negative is that it is full screen.

An excellent science fiction tale with great underlying moral implications. A highly recommended feature, even for those who aren't necessarily sci-fi lovers. Very good anamorphic widescreen display.

This is a great sci-fi movie, good story, good acting, decent special effects and but unfortunate low-budget 1980s production at times.
