A: I think that would be a very, very bad idea unless you install it with a functioning chimney……
Q: Is this safe for an rooftop apartment patio?
A: To use it on your patio, you should put down a piece of wood and place pit on top of it. The base is where the burnt ashes fall , and does get just a bit warm
Q: What is the 17.5" measurement? Height? Diameter? Thickness? Radius?
A: Its the diameter of the stove. The height is 16 and 3/4's when installed on the base.
Q: Is this safe for a deck or does anyone know of one that is?
A: I use it on my deck. Grabbed a 2 ft x 2 ft square of playwood to place underneath it to protect the deck. I've used it four times and it hasn't discolored my siding or covering. Also, for what it's worth, it hasn't burned the plywood either. Just don't put a new log on a smoldering fire and you won't get much, if any, smoke.
Q: What is the gauge and/or specifications of the stainless steel material?
A: 304 Stainless Steel
Q: This looks like stainless steel but is it?
A: Yes, it is stainless steel.
A: We do not recommend any firepit to be used on a wooden or trek deck. It should not scorch the grass, however it is possible that it could damage grass, as it does get hot.
