Stanley Kubrick's return to filmmaking after a seven-year hiatus, this film crystallizes the experience of the Vietnam War by concentrating on a group of raw Marine volunteers. Based on Gustav Hasford's novel The Short Timers, the film's first half details the volunteers' harrowing boot-camp training under the profane, power-saw guidance of drill instructor Sgt. Hartman (R. LEE ERMEY, a real-life drill instructor whose performance is one of the most terrifyingly realistic on record). Part two takes place in Nam, as seen through the eyes of the now thoroughly indoctrinated marines. Ironically, Full Metal Jacket was filmed almost entirely in England.~Hal Erickson

Full Metal Jacket [Includes Digital Copy] [4K Ultra HD Blu-ray/Blu-ray]
This is such a great and classic movie. It’s been a number of years since I saw it last, but this is the best it has ever looked. The picture quality looks fantastic in 4K. Very clean and detailed image especially in the first half. The second half of the movie has a little more grain, but still looks great. HDR brings new life to the scenes and makes this look like it was recently filmed. The SteelBook looks awesome as well.
Solid 4k transfer here. Slight layer of grain throughout. Some shots were a bit more focused than others, but that is mostly due to directors intent. The 4k PQ seems to improve as the film goes on. Im very happy with this transfer. Very smooth with all the scratches and tears patched up. I wouldnt demo this disc if im trying to show off my panel, but it does make the film look good.

Love the cover art for this steelbook. And such a great movie. Definitely a must have for collectors.
Almost everyone who has seen Full Metal Jacket loves the first half in basic training, with R. Lee Ermey as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman destroying and building back up young men into vicious killers, and the consequential mental breakdown of Private Leonard "Gomer Pyle" Lawrence, played fantastically by Vincent D'Onofrio. Half of viewers then tune out in the second half, when the protagonist, Private "Joker", is deployed to Vietnam, as it's much slower and bleaker. While it is no "Apocalypse Now", the second half does a great job of showing the results of the Vietnam War on both Vietnam the country and the psyches of combatants on both sides. In 4K with HDR, the details of the sets and outdoor shots give the film an even better look than before. If you watched it before and only remember liking the first half, I suggest giving it another shot. If you've never seen it before, behind "The Shining" it makes for a pretty good intro movie into Stanley Kubrick's filmography.
Full Metal Jacket has always been one of my favorite Vietnam era movies. Now, it can really be enjoyed with the full HD 4K! I am impressed how well it looks now and sounds. We can really here Drill Sergeant R. Lee Ermey now. lol
The 4K is fabulous and we get the blu-ray copy of it as well.
Anyone who is a fan of the movie, get this one!
This one has a nice slipcover.

What can I say it's 4k. Got it just to try my new LG 4K player. Sound lags some what on play back only of this movie in my player. The first half is the best. Gunny sergeant is one tuff cookie.
A:AnswerI have been trying to pre order this since about September 3rd and it has said "Coming Soon" since then. I caught it a couple times where it said "Pre Order" and it let me add it to my cart but when I went to checkout it said the item was not available. Maybe they sold out all the pre orders. I think they can only sell a certain amount through pre order so they can give the people a chance to buy it in store, I may be wrong though. I'm assuming this because when it was first listed on their site you were able to buy/pre order it for a while, at least up until around September 3rd since that's when I ordered all this month's other pre order Steelbooks. I should have just bought it the second it went up for pre order but I'll just wait until release day, the 22nd, and order it super early in the morning in case it sells out. I know this has happened in the past with Steelbooks, they'll go up for pre order for a while then they just say coming soon until release day. Actually this just happened to me a month or two ago but I can't remember what movie it was. Just keep an eye on it and check back a few times a day and/or just wait until early morning on release day before Best Buy opens their stores and you should be able to order it then.
