      This fridge deserves 0 stars - it made it just past the warranty period and croaked. We purchased it December 15, 2015 (we didn't purchase it at BB) and on February 3, 2017 I opened the door and went for the coffee creamer and it was lukewarm - the entire inside of the fridge was barely below room temp. I adjusted the temp to the lowest setting. It took us about another week to notice it because it seems to cool for a while then it stops - no temp alarm or any other warning. This weekend I went for the coffee creamer and as soon as I opened the door I smelled something sour. Again, everything was lukewarm. Over $200 worth of food spoiled. We hadn't really paid attention but after the fact my wife finally put 2+2 together as to why some food was spoiling so quickly - I wonder how much bad food we and our children have eaten since we bought this thing. After doing some online research, there a numerous owners of this unit that have gone through almost exactly the same experience. Now out of warranty, it appears the repairs will be cost-prohibitive and it seems to take weeks to get parts (based on other reviews). Our last fridge made it almost 15 years and was still perfectly functional when we replaced it. Now this unit for $2,000 and it barely lasted a year - absolutely outrageous and unacceptable. Lesson learned and I will NEVER buy GE products again. Do yourself a favor and research thoroughly before dropping your hard-earned cash.

      I was very excited to purchase such a beautiful refrigerator, it looked amazing in my kitchen. I spent a ton of money on it and figured that since it was a GE product, it would last a lifetime. I was wrong. I saw in another review that the water dispenser drips water after you dispense water out of it which I had the same issue with but I could live with that. Fast forward 2 years... one day, there was water leaking out of the ice dispenser. I figured out that the ice had melted and was dripping on my floor, warping some of the flooring that sits in front of the refrigerator. Then the temperature started going down in the refrigerator unit on the top but the freezer was still cold. I had a GE repairman come out which cost $100 to have him look at it without repairing anything on it. He said that the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator went out. He felt bad about my refrigerator being so new so he gave me half off parts and labor which would have cost me $350. He said that he would be back in 1 week to repair it. 1 week goes by and we get a call..... it is on back order and didn't come in. Extremely irritated, we wait another week.... still no part to repair the refrigerator..... over 1 month later, you guessed it.....STILL NO PART!!!! I tried to talk to their customer service and all I heard was "we are sorry to hear that" and "there is nothing we can do". I now have to go with some other company to try to find this part and pay probably even more for it. Long story short.... buy an extended warranty and keep it on the refrigerator and pray nothing like this happens to you.

      Fridge OK but Achilles Heel is the Ice Dispenser


      I really like this refrigerator a lot, with the exception of the ice\water dispenser. The refrigerator is very roomy, and you can fit a ton of stuff into the top and bottom freezer. The slate color is especially nice as is the fingerprint resistant finish, which holds magnets by the way. The ice maker is in the left door and saves space. Ice output is adequate, so I would not bother for a 2nd icemaker in the freezer. The dispenser is what I have issues with. The ice chute clogs daily, so you have to open the door, take out the ice bucket and clear the clog. If the chute clogs, water collects on the drip pan, which has no water draining channels or holes. Water puddles on the drip pan and runs off of it when you open the door. Most of the runoff winds up on the freezer door and on the floor. If you don't hold your glass high in the dispenser, water and ice go everywhere. So other than the ice\water dispenser, this is really nice refrigerator. I'm returning mine for a GE side by side which has a much more user friendly ice\water dispenser. One last thing, the touch sensitive control panel on the dispenser is not back-lit, so determining what you get from the dispenser in a dark room or at night is impossible. GE engineers, you REALLY need to make some improvements on the ice\water dispenser and to the dispenser controls and drip pan.

      I have been a cabinet maker for 12 years. I've built custom kitchens and fitted hundreds of appliances. The Industry standard for this type of refrigerator calls for a 36" wide opening. The GE spec sheets say this refrigerator is 35 3/4" wide. A client of mine has now ordered two, and both have sides that bulge out to 36 3/16"!!! Obviously, that isn't fitting into a 36" wide opening! As a small business, my client's satisfaction is my #1 goal. I am now looking at rebuilding a refrigerator cabinet to accommodate GE's poor quality control! I have never been stonewalled by customer service like I have been by GE on this issue! They are not budging! Which makes me think the added 7/16" of width isn't an issue with just 1 or 2. I believe they have a HUGE amount of these poorly built refrigerators and do not want to set the precedent of returning and replacing!!! They have changed their website to say the refrigerator is "approximately" 35 3/4", but the hard copy and every other spec sheet just says 35 3/4"!!! Which is the industry standard! When I build kitchens I don't deal with appropriately! What's next? Dishwashers that are 24 7/16"? A 30 7/16" wide range? After this experience, I will not be buying or recommending any of my clients purchase GE appliances.

      I purchased this fridge on Black Friday for $1700, and it has spectacular bang for that buck. The 3 things that were must haves for us in a french door fridge were lots of space, ice/water access through the door, and the ice maker in the door (to maximize interior space). This fits all of those criteria perfectly, and for a great price (27.8 cu ft is huge!!). It doesn't have all of the bells and whistles, such as a Keurig brewer or a 4th drawer that can be opened separately from the main fridge, but these options will almost never be found at this price point (and we didn't need those options). So far, the fridge has been going strong for about a month with no issues, though I will be sure to update this review if that changes. Just as a heads up, the ice maker does not make/store a ton of ice, though this will always be a trade-off for "in-the-door" ice makers. Therefore, if you entertain a lot and/or use tons of ice, you will likely need to buy ice for those occasions. TL;DR I'd buy this fridge again without blinking an eye.

      GE did a great job at making a refrigerator that looks good and has plenty of room inside. However, it seems as if their engineers have dropped the ball. The compressor is louder than most refrigerators I've been around, but not intolerable. The manual mentions that a few water drop may drip after using the water dispenser...and it does. But, why??, I haven't had this problem in any other refrigerator that I have used. Also, and perhaps most annoying, is the loud double thunk that occurs when the water shuts off after filling the ice cube tray. I was told by customer service that noises like this are normal, and that a service technician could be sent out, but I would be charged for a service call if it was deemed normal. So, now after only having the refrigerator for about 1-1/2 months, I can just accept the noise, or roll the dice that I won't get charged for the service call. I just replaced all the kitchen appliances with GE Slate appliances, so I really don't have the option of returning the refrigerator for a different brand. I'll talk to Best Buy next to see what I might do least their customer service has been helpful.

      I thought I would be different and get a French door fridge to match my other GE appliances. It's spacious, but I've had to get use to the differences in functionality. I'm use to a side by side where all my condiments fit in either tray. However the compartments on the left of the fridge are very different. The 1st tray is only wide enough to fit 3 or 4 Yogurt containers. The one underneath it might fit salad dressing but not a regular container of Mayo. I have to place those condiments on the right side. I have to place the milk and OJ on the right side too b/c they won't fit in the main area b/c of the height. The main trays are adjustable but that makes the other areas less functional. I do like the water dispenser and the spaciousness and layout of the freezer! This stainless steel fridge is a fingerprint magnet though. I'll wipe it down with special cleaner at some point and see if this helps. If I had to choose again, I would still consider this GE fridge.

      So far so good. Went from a 29.8 cf dog of a French door in a different brand to this, but there is plenty of space with room to spare. We bought the add-on ice maker for the freezer and haven’t had to use it for ice once. The in-door ice maker has been quite capable of producing ice on demand. I knew it didn’t have a place for butter, but I wish it did. Coming from a fridge that had one, I didn’t think I’d miss it, but I do. The two top shelves on the inside left door remain empty. I don’t have grocery items small enough to store in there so this may prove to be wasted space. It does have a slightly more notable hum than our old fridge, but nothing unbearable or annoying. I’m used to the occasional pops, whirs, and sputters, so no surprises here. Again, nothing unbearable or annoying. We’ve had the GE for about a month now and we really like it. We’re grateful to have a fridge that keeps our food cold and makes ice when we need it. It does what a refrigerator should do. Fingers crossed that this one will make up for the horror we went through for seven years with another brand.
