This computer animated follows the story of Nariko, whose clan has been tasked with protecting a powerful sword that wields immense power despite sucking the life force from its carrier. When an evil king seeks to steal it and bring about the end of life as everyone knows it, Nariko must use it to defend her people - and the world.~Cammila Collar
This is a great movie, animation parallel the game. They portray Nariko's father one way on the game then another way in the movie. I will not spoil anything, but one will make you hate Nariko's father compared to the other in my opinion. This movie is a must have if you like the game and worth checking out. I cannot say one is better than the other except you can play the game and it is a lot longer. The movie is like an alternate universe compared to the PS3 hit. The main plot still stays the same, where other information is different and completely new.
I would recommend this to a friend

Better if you played the game
I bought the movie as it was on sale and the description sounded interesting. Well, the movie was good but I got lost a few times since I never played the game. I watched again just to understand it. The quality is as expected from a DVD. Interesting story based on a video game.
A good movie based on the PlayStation 3 2007 sleeper hit game.
Fills-in a lot of story gaps that the 2007 game leaves. Great animation. Awesome voice acting. Unbeatable price.
A must own for any fan of the game.
the movie was just what you would expect of a video game spin off. the artwork is different but at the same time enjoyable and fun. The movie is classic Chinese tales and if you like video games and Asian artwork this movie you may like
I LOOOOVE Heavenly Sword - the game! It is one of my top favorites of all time! So when I saw the movie, I thought, cool!
Not to give too much away, but it loosely follows the original story with some twists and some alternate details.
I didn't care too much about the animation. It looks very retro and takes away from the movie itself.
Still, I liked it enough to not return it. If you could rent it, that would be best.
Heavenly Sword has received a lot of unnecessary hate over the years for it's short length and qte filled combat. But for people that enjoyed the gameplay, they were treated to an amazing story and great acting. On display here, is a movie rendition of the game, passable in nature but if you have a ps3, I would recommend just picking up the game and experiencing it through the original medium.
I had such a great time watching this action packed well made anime. Heavenly Sword reminded me of some of the great classic anime's a watched in the past years. This I believe we'll be considered a classic in years to come.
