Hitman Definitive Edition - PlayStation 4

Kinda torn on how to review this one. I bought it at basically the same time that I bought Hitman 2, and I played it before playing Hitman 2, because that's usually how sequels work. However, I discovered that, as far as I can tell, everything in Hitman 1 is also in Hitman 2 (or maybe it is only if you buy this game or the 'legacy pack' for 2). The whole thing's a bit complicated, but the upshot is this: I played through the story of Hitman 1 and then put Hitman 2 in and discovered that I could have played it all there instead, and my progress/unlocks would have been saved together with the stuff from Hitman 2. Your saves/unlocks from Hitman 1 don't carry over to the Hitman 2 game, so if you want to unlock that stuff, you have to play it again. TLDR: This is a fantastic game if you like stealthy, methodical gameplay, but I recommend you don't play it here--play the same content in Hitman 2. Either buy Hitman 1 or the legacy pack for 2 to unlock the first game's content in 2, then play everything from the beginning in Hitman 2. TLDRTLDR; buy this game and Hitman 2, but only play Hitman 2.

I bought this game when it came out, and I was very frustrated by it. I love this series but the new interface was a little too convoluted for me. That said, if you own the sequel it's worth picking this up if you don't already have it. They remastered the game so if you own both you can download the old game locations and play them through the sequel's disc, with the same interface as the sequel. Mission stories are updated and followed like the sequel, planning and disguises are like the sequel, weapon wheel is like the sequel. It's a much more fluid experience on all levels, and as a bonus you can use weapon/tool unlocks across both games.

With Hitman 3 out, thought I would go back to the original (for newer systems...) and start from there. It's an absolute blast. Only three levels in and after 5+ hours of trying each level a different way, I'm loving it. Highly recommended.

I've read all the great reviews, decided to check out this game for myself and was not disappointed. I'm having a fantastic time playing and replaying missions using the many different approaches and methods of in-game assassination. i'm looking forward to buying the sequels.

If your into the Hitman series, add this to your collection

I don’t know what took me so long to buy this game. I like that there are so many was to complete every mission in the game and you can play it over and over to try all the different ways to complete them. Can’t wait to finish to play the next 2 games. If like stealth game buy this game you won’t regret it.

I love stealth games, and this delivers. Like most, I wasn’t a fan of the episodic release format, but the game itself is fantastic, and obviously that doesn’t apply to this particular product anyway. It’s pretty immersive, each sandbox they give you has dozens (potentially hundreds) of methods. Takes patience but when you finally nail a mission exactly how you wanted, it’s super rewarding. It handles smoothly and it looks awesome. It’s also very much a challenge.
