I hate taking out the trash! My handyman installed this which wasn’t a replacement and it was quite easy for him. He gutted my cabinet using a skill saw and cut 1/4 inch off on one interior side and installed an electrical outlet and the rest was plugging in and moving into place. He installed it 10 days ago and I have to had to empty it yet. Usually I have to take out garbage at least 2 times a week. It is loud, but it compacts garbage and boxes wonderfully!
Purchased this compactor to match appliances in new home. I thought it was expensive but chose to purchase regardless. Husband is handy and was able to install himself. The unit operates well, not terribly loud or long when cycling. I find the door is a bit wobbly in comparison to an old model I owned before but not too annoying. Looks good, works well. Glad I made the purchase. Best Buy delivered quickly, too.
Love this. I love the look of the front of this panel and the handle on it is nice and thick. You can lift up and pull out or step on the button below to pull it out. I will never be without a trash compactor again. It saves so much room in your dumpster.
The only think I did not like is it did not come with tools that you need to install the special screws they have. I guess they thought the home owner would have these.
This trash compactor was purchased to replace an old KitchenAid trash compactor that we had. Our old compactor was loud and you had to twist a knob to compact. We wanted to purchase another KitchAid because at the same time, we bought three other KitchenAid appliances, so we wanted them to all match in color and style. We are so glad we purchased this compactor. It is much quieter than our old compactor and there is a convenient foot button to start the compacting. It also seems to hold more trash than our old model. There was a special step screw missing from the foot pedal to open the compactor drawer, but the old compactor had the same screw, so my husband simply removed the old one and installed on the new one. It worked perfectly and we have had no issues.
This compactor replaced an older Kitchenaid one. It's good, but the hidden controls make it more difficult to use. For example, when it's in compress mode, you can't open it until you run it once. With the old one, with the controls on the front, you could switch it from compress to normal and not have to run it first. In addition, the starter on the old one was on the front control panel and was easy to turn on. With the new one, you have to kick a tab at the bottom and if you don't have your shoes on, it can be difficult. As far as the actual trash compaction, that seems the same, it's just the lack of controls on the front that makes this one a little more difficult to use.
Seems to be a good unit. We haven't had it long so I can't say much about longevity. Bought it because it matched the rest of our KitchenAid appliances. Looks good and smashes trash, what more could you ask for.
We replaced our other brand compactor with this KitchenAid because it kept failing. This model is the top of their model range and has two features that we didn’t have before. The first is a fan and filter system to control the odors that can develop. And the best feature is that the foot can be controlled to press down on the trash and not return upwards until you request it to. This feature compacts the trash with full pressure and forms it to stay compacted allowing for more trash to be inserted. A great feature that you're sure to like.
Compactor works great, I like the air freshener feature. Mine arrived in good physical condition, however the door was hard to close and open, there is a lot of resistance near the closing point. After a while I discovered that the tracks get closer together near the back causing the difficulty to slide. The track spacing is 11" near the front and 10.5" at the back. I tried calling for service, but KitchenAid doesn't have their own service team, they contract with a local company. The local company did not show up for the scheduled service and did not return my phone calls. I sure hope this lasts a very long time...
A:AnswerPanel ready means the appliance gets delivered without a front. You would then go to a cabinet maker so they can design a custom panel and pull handles to match the cabinets in your kitchen. This way at a glance you would not know there was an appliance there as it would seamlessly blend in with you cabinets
A:AnswerThis will probably fit very tightly without taking the wheels off. I measured my opening and it is right about that size for height and it fit without removing anything. It was a tight fit. Your tightest area will be the two machine screws at the top of the unit. I put this unit in to replace an old Jenn Air that tightly fit in the same space.
