  • Features
    • Hard Food Disposer: false (This feature has blades to chop and disintegrate hard food particles, making them small enough to easily drain away. This prevents them from being recirculated back onto dishware and allows for easy maintenance.)
    • Drying Method: Condenser drying (Appliances that use heat to dry the dishes will include a heating element or minerals which transform moisture into heat. A fan or vent then circulates the hot dry air throughout the tub during the drying cycle. This may reduce drying time and the risk of water spots. Appliances that use minerals to produce heat are considered more energy efficient than those that include a heating element. Appliances that use condensation drying are considered more energy efficient than those that use heated drying. Instead, high temperature water is produced during the final rinse cycle which warms the interior and eventually condensates and drains out of the machine.)

Keep up with the tools you use from prep to table with this dishwasher's three racks of versatile loading possibilities and complete wash coverage. The FreeFlex third rack fits glasses, mugs, bowls, silverware, and cooking tools, freeing up room below for pots, plates, and mixing bowls. The advanced clean water wash system circulates clean water to dishes in all three racks.

  • FreeFlex third rack: The large third rack has a deep, angled design that fits 6" glasses, mugs, and bowls.
  • 44dBA: Provides quiet cleaning without compromising performance, so there's no need to wait to run a wash cycle while entertaining and enjoying meals, even in open-concept kitchens.
  • Advanced clean-water wash system: Uses microfiltration to continuously remove food particles during the wash and rinse cycles and circulates clean water to dishes in all three racks. This allows dirty cookware and delicate glassware to be washed together in the same load.

  • Two stemware holders in middle rack: Secure wine glasses along the side of the rack to prevent them from moving around during the wash cycle.
  • Express wash cycle: Cleans in less time, so you always have the dishes you need while prepping, cooking, and entertaining.
  • Sani Rinse option: Eliminates most food soil bacteria
  • Top controls: The controls are tucked away on top of the dishwasher door for a clean look to match your kitchen style. An indicator light on the front of the door changes colors to subtly display cycle progress.

Q: What is the difference between the Kitchenaid dishwasher 404 and the 604 models?

A: The main difference is that the 404 has 2 stemware holders and 604 has 4 stemware holders and the ProDry option with fan assist which 404 does not have- go here for comparison. - https://www.kitchenaid.com/content/kitchenaid/en_us/compare.KDFM404KPS.KDTE204KBL.KDTM604KPS.html (the 404 in the comparison does not have a towel bar but it does come with that option fyi and both have same third rack) For details on the 604: https://www.us-appliance.com/kdtm604kps.html I am opting for the 404 since the fan is just another thing that can break and they don't have the best reliability record to begin with. hope this helps!

Q: KDTE204 is cheaper with 39 lower dbe level than KDTM404 with 44dbe level. What is the differences?

A: What I saw is that the 404 has adjustable tines on the 2nd shelf while the 204 doesn’t; also, the 404’s 3rd shelf allows for items other than just utensils (like coffee cups, small bowls) while the 204 is all flat and shallower.

Q: Does this dishwasher have a food grinder?

A: No, this dishwasher does not have a food grinder.

Q: Are the racks moveable ? Can you remove the 3rd rack ?

A: Hi Mary. You can remove the third and second rack for this KitchenAid® Dishwasher.

Q: What is the tiny pinhole that is in the top right front door of the 604 Kitchenaid model?

A: Not sure if I have the same model, but on my KitchenAid, that hole is where the indicator light shines—blue for washing, red for drying, and white for done. The light stays lit until you open the door at the end of the cycle.

Q: Must I rinse the dishes before putting them in this dishwasher?

A: I would just remove the big stuff, potato skins, meat bones, etc. If you mix cleaner and dirtier dishes then the dirtier dishes may not get clean. KA claims they have a dirt sensor and if no dirt is sensed then it goes to the next cycle. This does not necessarily clean even you cleaner dishes. We have had excellent results except for some skillets with burned on food.

Q: Does the door need to be shut when pushing the buttons or can it be closed after the buttons are pushed.

A: You have to push the functions you want before you close the door, as they are hidden after you close the door. You can press functions like normal, or pro-wash, then the drying options, then the start/resume button, then close the door. If you open the door to add or remove something, then you'll have to press the resume button, then close the door. There's a light on the top right of the door that tells you what the dishwasher is doing. Blue is wash, red is drying, white is done. Hope this helps.

Q: Can the "food filter(s)" be cleaned? How does it get rid of the food debris?

A: We just installed this dishwasher but I do recall my jusband saying that the food filter can easily be snapped out to clean and then replace

Great quality, cleans well, very quiet

First of all, I need to give a warning. If you purchase this online AND schedule installation at the same time, be sure to CALL BEST BUY AND CONFIRM that your installation is actually scheduled. My account said I had a scheduled installation (gave me a date and time) but it apparently didn't register with BB. I called the day before to be sure they were coming and BB customer service said they hadn't received my schedule request and that the machine was still in a warehouse in another state. It took another full week to get in installed. Save yourself the grief and be sure to confirm, no matter what your account with BB may say. Now that I've said that, I'm very happy with the dishwasher. I've run 2 loads so far and everything comes out clean and it's super quiet. Apparently quiet dishwashers don't have a grinder, as is the case with this one, and in the place of that there's a filter that needs to be cleaned. I've read complaints about that and I don't understand what there is to complain about. You just lift it out and rinse it. I've shown a picture of it and it couldn't be easier. To expand on the quiet - our bedroom is off of the kitchen. I scheduled a 4 hour delay last night so it must have started around 2:00am. I am a light sleeper and I didn't hear anything at all. It looks good and feels high quality. The feel and sound of the door when I shut it reminds me of the solid thunk of an airplane door being closed. The handle has a sleek industrial look and it feels good in the hand. If you're very detail oriented, I should mention that the caps on the end of the handle are red. The buttons are sensitive so if I brush them I can hear them beep. I can tell that I'm going to have to be careful about that. I like the third rack, though it's taking some time to get used to because I go back and forth on what to put where. It does seem like it holds more than my old Whirlpool. I recommend this. I'm giving 4 stars for value because I judge value by longevity as well and I can't attest to that. I hope we get many years out of it.

Happy Customer - Works, sounds and looks great

After a couple of months and daily use I can say this is a great dishwasher, I feel it's worth the price. Best points: 1) It's quiet. For all intents and purposes it's unnoticeable. The loudest noise (and it's not loud at all) is the sound of the water jets hitting a large bowl if you happen to have one in there. 2) It holds a lot of stuff. The 3rd (top) rack is useable - great for glasses, cups and long flat utensils. 3) It cleans and dries really well. The only times I've had anything wet after a cycle is glassware lids with a gasket and/or an errant bowl/cup not facing down. (Can't really fault those.) 4) I have to comment on the door closing feel; it feels/sounds awesome, like a bank vault. Could be better (not really problems): 1) With the top mount controls you often accidentally press a button when closing the unit. It doesn't start, just you feel the need to press "cancel" 2) The ProWash (best) cycle takes a long time. (Couple hours? I never measured it.). Because it fits so much, and it's quiet, we run it later in the evening. 3) I was initially a little disappointed it is not flush the surrounding cabinetry, it sticks out about an inch. I'm over that now. (See pic) We'll see how it holds up in the long run but so far I have zero regrets even with the higher price.

    Would recommend dishwasher

So far I am very happy with this purchase. It feels so much bigger than my last dishwasher. I LOVE the third row and how it has it’s own water sprayer. Everything gets really clean and it is quiet, not Bosch quiet but close enough. The only thing that loses points is the install, the guys were nice but b/c of covoid they were quick to leave before I could inspect it fully. It wasn’t lined up straight and they pushed my trim in with the dishwasher. I called Best Buy back, no return call which was disappointing. We ended up fixing it ourselves. So 5 stars for dishwasher and 4 stars for install.
