Good performance but features leave oven lacking

I've had this oven for two days- have already decided to return it to best buy and try a different model. LIKES: - It looks great, beautiful oven with solid handles and nice modern display - Visibility of current oven temperature while cooking - Broiler in upper oven is powerful - Convection performance is solid; baked two sheets of cookies in lower oven and results are very consistent DISLIKES: - When using the 'regular' timer, the area for the clock is replaced by a timer so you can no longer see a time - When using the easy convect / bake / etc mode, you set the temp, and then the time. This time will show in a different area than the 'regular' timer. Unfortunately there is no way to just let the oven preheat via this method before setting your time. - When the easy convect / bake / etc mode timer finishes the oven simply turns off. This makes it awkward to add additional time (have to start from step 1) and you lose track of whether the item is finished if you did not hear the two beeps. - This oven features some sort of electronic switch to allow gas to the ranges and burners; unfortunately some noise (a light buzz) from this switch is very audible in a quiet room. You can hear the switch pop on and off when switching between 'lock' mode and regular. Another downside here- it is likely this oven is dead in the water during a power outage. - Lock mode takes too long to engage / disengage. I understand the need for it with the burners out front but a 4 digit PIN on the keypad would be much faster. - In upper oven, when using the shelf setting suggested in the manual, the rack when extended bumps / rests on the door. Poor design / fitment. - Some of the controls and actions on the control panel are just weird and not straightforward. All in all, a good performing oven, but not a good oven. If these shortcomings don't bother you this oven will definitely cook food evenly and consistently while looking sharp in your kitchen. The constant hum of the electric valve is too annoying for my wife and myself after our previous inexpensive oven making zero noise.

    Awesome range

Bought this in Feb and was installed in April. Have been using it about a month. Although it is basically summer now and I usually do more grilling and much less baking this time of yr, I have been using it quite a bit. I've almost always had a gas stove but when we purchased this house, it came with a horrible electric cooktop in ceramic. So after four yrs I'm reacclimating to cooking with gas. We did the propane conversion by our local technically I'm on LP. It kicks out tremendous heat. The burners vary in BTUs but both larger ones are hottttt. I find I'm often on low to medium and cooking away. The ovens rock. I've used both. 1. I love the blue interior. 2. The convection is new to me but it's not that much of a learning curve. The easy convection button will figure for you what you shld be set on once you input the standard Time and temp for a recipe. So once and done. I've figured that it tends to suggest 25 degrees lower but same length of time. I'm also just winging it and experimenting with time and temp. Have not run the self clean as we are only a month in. Can bake 3 racks of cookies at a time...I really like it and am so glad to be back in gas...esp for canning. Bought as part of a three piece KitchenAid promo and price was great. Delivery was within a week. LP conversion pieces come with it. Took my propane guys about an hour to connect, test, etc.

    waiting 6 months for oven

    • My Best Buy® Elite MemberElite Member

I ordered this oven after seeing the reviews on 1/24/18 in the Black Stainless Steel to be delivered on 3/10/18. Oven was delivered, damaged in 3 places but functional. BestBuy stated to keep it to use until re-order could be done. Re-ordered and was to be delivered on 4/27/17 only to get a call from the store manager the day before @ 7:20PM to let me know it would be delayed due to short stock and new date is 6/8/18. So almost a 6 month process with no guarantees on if this one will be delivered in pristine condition. Of the one I have now, the timer setting is wonky - you when the timer ends, you have to hit the button twice to turn it off. The upper oven is tricky since it has broiler and not much room, the rack sits on the bottom so its hard to get sheet pans out. The lower oven is low to the floor. When buying - open up the oven and actually reach down and imagine lifting a roast out of a hot oven as a guide. The grates do not sit well on the stove, there are small rubber stoppers for heavy grates to prevent it from slipping, but its hard when the grates are cast iron and can slide when moving heavy pans on the stovetop.

    A joy to cook on

    • My Best Buy® Elite Plus MemberElite Plus Member

We've had our range for about a year now and are very happy with our purchase. Center burners are often low BTU burners that are good for warming only, but we routinely use ours for pancakes and it does a great job. The smaller top oven is great for homemade pizzas. We use a pizza stone and heat it to 500F, so having the smaller space to heat helps to reduce the heat in the kitchen. My only two complaints are the sliding rack which is a great feature, but not well executed. If you don't slide it in very straight, it sticks and you have to mess with it to get it to slide in. Not ideal with the oven hot and wearing an oven mitt. I also used the self-cleaning feature today after some chicken grease spilled in the oven and it did not do a very good job. Cleaning power (or time) is selectable from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest) and I chose 3, so it may just be that I need to go full power, but the mess was not exceptional and two hours seemed like it would be sufficient. Other than these minor complaints, we love our KitchenAid and love cooking on it.

A serious stove for serious cooks!

After my (dreadful) second-hand stove finally died, I went to Best Buy to check out new models. I'd happened to walk down another aisle while waiting to get the specs on another stove when I found myself in the 'double-oven' area. Having only seen them in ads once or twice, it wasn't even on my 'radar'. But, by the time the salesman had returned with my specs, I informed him that I wanted this stove, instead. We couldn't be happier with our purchase, a sleek, elegant beast that exceeds every expectation, and looks fabulous in our kitchen. Having variable burners is still a wonderful surprise, and makes even boiling water a joy. As if the stove's features weren't enough, the blue lining was a lovely surprise- and matches our counters perfectly, as if it were designed for us. I can't say enough about the tremendous versatility of this stove, which has already streamlined my cooking in general. Cant' wait for the holidays!

More than a standard range w/ a great price

I wanted convection, two ovens, sealed gas burners, range of btu's and stainless. Not many options out there that aren't professional level or at least very expensive. This range is a great in between price. Love having two ovens. Top one is great for heating up things, roasting vegetables or broiling - without using a full size oven. The burners are far enough apart to accommodate large pots on both front burners (also controls are flat on front leaving more room for pots). We find we have excellent control of the flame/heat of burners. We owned a previous version of KitchenAid's gas convection range, but one of the high btu burners was in the back making it impossible to use with a large pot and controls were at the front but facing up taking up range top space. Also love the smooth gliding oven racks. This range is a great improvement.

    A Little Disappointed

    • My Best Buy® MemberMember

My stove arrived today and of course I was very excited. The installer pointed out two issues: 1. The grates aren't even so sliding a pot from left to right or vice verse may cause a tipover/spillover of pot contents and therefore a huge mess. 2. On initial firing up of the front right burner some grate material flamed off leaving leaving a very visible imperfection. I haven't used the stove at all yet (top nor ovens) but will update if I find additional issues.

    Poor cooking quality

I purchased this KitchenAid range to replace a 10 year old builder grade (low level) GE range. I expected the KitchenAid convection oven in this new unit to cook more evenly than the old GE and to do it quicker as convection ovens do. Nope. The old GE oven cooked the food better and quicker. The next night I used the stove top to boil water for pasta. It took longer for the water to boil on the new KitchenAid - even while using the high BTU burner - then it did on the old GE. I am very disappointed with KitchenAid. They are not like they used to be. It seems to be nothing more than a Whirlpool in a "pretty dress" with poor cooking performance - all at a high premium price. Thankfully Best Buy has a 14-day return policy.
