A: Hi, Dramainchicago. Yes, S-mode can be switched out of so that the system is running standard Windows 11 Home. Here is a link to a Microsoft webpage that shares how to do so: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-and-windows-11-in-s-mode-faq-851057d6-1ee9-b9e5-c30b-93baebeebc85
Q: How long can you safely keep the power cord / battery on?
A: In general, any laptop can be used with continuous connection to a laptop. What will happen is that the computer will operate off that, rather than the battery. At the same time, the battery will very slowly discharge, which is what any battery will do over time. When it reaches a certain threshold (which is different for every company, model, year, etc. of both the computer and battery), somewhere around 95%, it will then automatically charge. This is referred to as a "trickle charge." Since the battery never loses a charge below that threshold, after a period of time (again, this varies), that new percentage becomes the maximum charge the battery will accept, rather than 100%. Eventually, the new maximum charge becomes too low for the battery to be of any practical use, and needs replacement. This process takes years, although if you never use the computer without it's being plugged in, you can ignore the whole thing and continue using the laptop as you were. An alternative course of action, if you occasionally do want to use it in a location without an outlet, would be to remove the battery and only put it back in when you need it. If you do that, you should always check the charge after putting the battery in place before using it on the go, since, as I mentioned, all batteries gradually lose their charge over time.
A: No. There are a number of reasons why internal optical drives are largely unavailable, though they can still be found, mostly (but not exclusively) in "hardened" laptops that look (and weigh) like bricks and are used in construction, emergency situations, and the military. Or through the refurbished/used/ secondhand market. There are a number of reasons for this: 1. Modern laptops (and desktops) are pushing to be smaller and weigh less, with many companies advertising their computers as “ultra thin” or “easily portable.” Optical drives significantly add weight (about half a pound) and bulk (12 cm. diameter). 2. Even Blu-ray discs top out at 128 GB, far below HDDs, SSDs, or pen/flash drives on a per-centimeter basis. 3. With the advent of fast network connectivity, cloud storage, software distributed via the Internet, and growing use of USB 3 and even USB 4 (with raw link speed of up to 80 Gbps), integrated optical drives have largely become obsolete. As mentioned in the other reply, should you need an optical drive, they are still available, at a modest cost, as external, portable units. If you need a laptop with an integrated optical drive, look elsewhere, as noted.

I purchased this computer for online college because my other computer did not meet the requirements for the testing center. When I got it home and unboxed it, I plugged it in, and it immediately started up and went to setting itself up. This is one of the most straightforward computers I've ever had to set up. I have had the computer for a few weeks now and have enjoyed working with it; the display is crisp and bright, and the keyboard and mouse are sensitive enough that you don't have to have a heavy hand to type or move the cursor around the screen. The battery life is surprisingly long. I have used the computer every day except for the last three days since I purchased it, and I've only had to recharge it once since the first initial charge.
