Shelton made his debut with the single InchAustinInch. The lead-off single from his self-titled debut album, InchAustinInch spent five weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The gold-certified debut album also produced two more Top 20 hits. His second and third albums, 2003's The Dreamer and 2004's Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill, were each certified gold as well. His fourth album, Pure BS (2007), was re-issued in 2008 with a cover of Michael Bublé's pop hit InchHomeInch as one of the bonus tracks. His fifth album, Startin' Fires was released in November 2008. It was followed by the extended plays Hillbilly Bone and All About Tonight in 2010, and this collection that same year. He is also known as a judge on televised singing competitions Nashville Star, Clash of the Choirs, and The Voice. Following the of their third studio album, The Changing of Times (2002), half of the band's members were replaced. After finalizing the line-up with vocalist Spencer Chamberlain, the band recorded They're Only Chasing Safety with producer James Paul Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, Further Seems Forever, Paramore). In the heavy and punk music scene, the album is considered a watershed moment. The blend of heavy metal and hardcore influences with a strong pop/punk sensibility spawned a new branch of heavy music.
