    Synopsis

The Fox network's very first sitcom launches its very first season, as Married...With Children invades the sanctity of the American home. We waste no time introducing the Bundys of Chicago, headed by cloddish, chauvinistic shoe salesman Al Bundy (Ed O'Neill) and his lazy, oversexed wife Peg (Katey Sagal). And of course, there are the Bundy brats: Daughter Kelly (Christina Applegate), who has managed to garner the worst reputation in her school at the tender age of 15, and eleven-year-old son Bud (David Faustino), a J.D.-in-training. The Bundys spend most of the series' first season outraging and disgusting their wide-eyed newlywed neighbors, young accountants Steve and Marcy Rhoades (David Garrison, Amanda Bearse). Whatever illusions Steve and Marcy may have had about the sweetness of matrimony and family life are destroyed by the boorish Bundys and their repulsive children on a weekly (if not daily) basis. Highlights (or is it lowlights?) of the series' inaugural season include Peg's efforts to go on a diet, Al's accidental "execution" of the neighbors' dog, Al and Steve bonding over the matter of a '65 Mustang (and simultaneously alienating their wives all the more), the family's depletion of their already tenuous credit rating, a "second honeymoon" at a no-tell motel, Peg going to work in order to buy a VCR, and innocent Marcy's outrageous sexual fantasies. . .about Al. Closing the season as Fox's highest-rated program, Married...With Children also established the fledgling network's mandate: Shock 'em, gross 'em out, make 'em laugh, and count the change as the advertising revenue rolls in. ~ Hal Erickson

Married With Children is one of the funniest sitcoms ever made, with Ed O'Neill's performance as Al Bundy being a classic for the ages. This was one of the first series on the fledgling FOX Network back in 1987, and the show ran for a decade with plenty of laughs and shocks around every corner. The principal cast, including O'Neill, Katey Sagal, Amanda Bearse, and David Faustino, are all great in their roles. Guest stars over the seasons only add to the experience, including the heavy metal band Anthrax, Gilbert Gottfried, wrestler King Kong Bundy, the Village People, BB King, Wolfman Jack, Jerry Mathers, Gary Coleman, and Sam Kinison. Not to mention countless others. This set restores the Frank Sinatra song "Love and Marriage" during the opening titles; it was removed from most of the older DVDs for legal reasons. The release is affordable, but the generic double-sided sleeves for the discs are a little plain and boring, and the packaging ends up feeling like an afterthought. I would recommend using different sleeves/cases. If you are a fan of the show, this is a no-brainer. You get 200+ episodes for one low price. You may want to use your own packaging, but apart from that minor caveat, this release is strongly recommended!

So I purchased two of these because the boxes looked different at the two BestBuys I went to. So I had to check out the differences. The packaging was very different between the two. The first dvd case had all the discs individually packed into dvd sleeves and they were stacked in a nice pile. Hard plastic, very thick dvd box. The second dvd case was a little different. The card stock case was made up of two halves. The wider top portion slides over the narrower bottom portion. The dvds were placed in card stock "slots" - very cheap and offered no protection. Much more liable to getting scratched (and they fell out of the slots by themselves due to gravity). If you buy one of these, I suggest going in-store as you cannot tell the packaging by shopping for it online. If I had kept both, I would have uploaded pics to compare.

Saw a lot of reviews online, some bad, some good. Never bad reviews for the show itself but mostly for the quality and presentation of the box set. Although it could have been better, I think they upgraded the packaging since the previous release because this packaging was decent. I have no issues with the packaging. The discs were in sturdy cardboard sleeves that hold one disc on each side of the sleeve, and ALL of the seasons and episodes are accounted for because I physically looked at each disc (because the title of each show is solely on each disc and nowhere else lol) compared it to the episode list that I found online and it matches up. I'm sure the quality isn't too great because it is DVD and it's about 13 episodes per disc, and I have yet to watch a single episode lol, but as far as packaging and presentation goes with the cardboard sleeves, the set is done justice and the original theme song is back. 262 episodes , 11 seasons on 21 discs for $24.99, i can't complain.

Married With Children is certainly one of my favorite TV shows of all time. In reality, I haven't watched "network prime time TV" for years, and I stopped watching (in favor of more "documentary" type programs on cable channels) shortly after Married With Children completed its run. So, it's good to have the entire series, and the price is certainly right. Though, I'm taking off a star for the cheapness of everything, as a lot of other reviewers have already mentioned. I actually wonder if the video quality has been reduced in order to make all of the episodes fit onto the discs -- with usually 12 episodes per disc, that seems to be more episodes per disc than previous releases of the show put on each disc. I haven't found any way to verify that, though. In the end, the series is well worth watching all over again, and I've found myself stuck binge-watching episode after episode after episode a number of times already. And it's certainly at a price point where you can afford to get the whole series, no doubt about that!

I picked up a few of these sets for gifts and one for myself. I had the previous set that had all the discs sitting on spindles about 16 on each side. They also didn't have any kind of dividers in between the disc. This set has each disc in their own little white sleeves. Also the discs are stacked atop of each other on one side of the package. Some people have a problem with it for some reason but for the price of having the entire series I can live with the utilitarian packaging. Also for those who complained about the old set not having the theme song in any seasons after the second this set rights that wrong. As for video quality it is about to be expected for an older series such as this. Not horrible but they could have remastered them a little. It suffices though and doesn't take away from the greatness of the show. All in all if you are on the fence about getting this just go ahead and do it. I got the ones I bought for 25 a piece and was very happy in the end with what I got.

If you used to watch this show in the 90's, I would recommend purchasing this complete collection. I grew up watching Married With Children and the show still holds up to this day. I admire how the show continued to evolve after every season in order to stay fresh. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. My only complaint with this collection is the opening theme. Although "Love and Marriage" by Frank Sinatra is played, unlike the previous DVD sets, the collection does not use the ORIGINAL openings when the show aired live on Sunday nights. It seems as if the makers of the collection used the episodes from the former complete series collection and just formatted the opening with the song to make it look like the original. Fans of the series WILL notice this immediately. Regardless, the episodes are there and so is the laughter. I still give this 5 stars.

I loved this show as a teenager. It was funny to me then and it is still funny to me now. I love that they finally came out with the complete series. I didn't get a lot of the jokes then but after watching this show and laughing at the jokes now... priceless. I wish they would have made it, to more seasons. It brings me back memories of when I sat down to watch them as a teenager. I don't mind that is is only in DVD format, it gives the look of the show how it originally looked... except for a little clearer.

When Married with Children aired back in the 80s-90s, It was one of those shows that pushed the envelope & then destroyed it. With it's brash, tongue & cheek & non-pc humor. It made this show worth watching. & to remind ourselves not to take things too seriously. Especially on TV. So happy the entire series is available in one set. Worth the purchase. However the packaging could of been better. Don't expect an elaborate dvd page holding system, All the dvds are stacked on top of each other & are individually in dvd paper sleeves which is a real shame.
