A: You can probably still mount it but the tray won't be able to rotate up level with the desk top if it is stopped by the bottom of the face board. If you could cut a notch the width of the arm which is about six inches, in the face board (level with the bottom of the desk), then that would most likely work.

Q: Does it slide back and out of the way when not in use?
A: It slides straight back. In raised position the bottom is about 3.5” below the mounting surface. Mine pushes in just behind the front edge of the desk. You could probably adjust the track installation to get another inch or two but not much more than that.
