    Synopsis

Are you a go-getting risk-taker who loves to live on the edge and reap the rewards of high-stakes gambling? Or are you a live-by-the-rules, stand-up citizen who finds value in upholding the law and protecting your fellow citizens? Regardless of your priorities, Need for Speed: Rivals has a role for you. Strap yourself in and get ready to ride as you take to the streets of Redview County. An all-out war between racers and cops greets you around every corner as you take street racing to the next level with the fastest cars, mods and technology in a gritty open-road environment. Whether you're risking it all to cross the finish line first or using an impressive array of advanced pursuit technology to bust the ne'er-do-wells of Redview County, your need for speed is sure to be satisfied.

Get ready for some adrenaline-pumping, high-stakes rivalry as either a lone-wolf racer out for your own glory, or a member of the police force on the hunt to bust the law-breakers. Each side has their own unique set of cars, technology, play styles and careers. Aren't sure which side you fall on? Need for Speed: Rivals allows you to experience them both with a progression system built for each side. The new gambling scoring system lets you decide if you want to wager your speed points to shoot for a higher multiplier and greater rewards, or play it safe and bank your speed points when you return to a hideout. However, easy come, easy go — if you get busted by the cops, they take speed points as a reward. Design the car of your dreams with access to the latest performance upgrades and technology, as well as custom paint jobs, liveries, license plates, rims and decals to show off your personal style. The thrills never stop with fully loaded technology that's customized for each side of the law. Racers can choose evasion technology, such as jammers and electromagnetic pulses, while the police have access to pursuit technology, including shockwaves, roadblocks, helicopter support and more. Frostbite Engine 3 brings it all together with stunning, high-definition, next-generation graphics that bring every detail of the game to life for a breathtaking, high-speed experience you won't forget. Share it with your friends in AllDrive that seamlessly joins your games online or offline, as friends or as rivals, then connect to the Need for Speed network to compare your progress and share pictures of your best races and chases. Experience the thrill of pursuit as well as the excitement of evasion in one game.

I have been a huge fan of the Burnout series over the years and read that Need for Speed Rivals had a lot of that style of gameplay. I bought the game and played it for 8 hours straight the first night. You can choose between the police or the racers and switch back and forth throughout the game to make the gameplay a bit different. You are able to upgrade your vehicles, including new paint, decals, etc (racers only) and weapons (cops and racers). The big problem deals with the way the game saves your progress. Apparently it is done through an EA Cloud server and it doesn't always work right. The next day I went to continue my game and my save was broken and the game started me at the very beginning. I had went from level 14 all the way back down to level 1. One recommendation to help fix the save bug is to disconnect your ethernet cable and play the game offline. I did try that and my progress did save correctly. The next time I played I connected the ethernet cable back, and the saves appeared to begin working ok, however, I became hesitant to play for more than an hour at a time. I would have given this game a 5 star rating if the save game feature worked correctly. Since it doesn't, I knocked the game down to 3 stars. The game is worth playing, but limit the time you do play it in case your progress isn't saved.

My son has done extensive research online trying to resolve a saving issue. Sometimes it saves and sometimes it doesn't. He even did a full removal of program started from scratch offline per some directions found online stating it was an issue with a corrupt file saving issue on their cloud with detailed directions on how/where to save. Not my thing but the issues take any fun from the game for my son when he has to keep repeating the races over and over. If I could return the game I would unfortunately we all know how that works with open games, video, music, etc. . . . . Seems like you should be able to return the game since the issue is with the game/manufacturer. Two stars only as the game would be good if it saved.

The "Need for Speed" X-Box One game is quite good, however, we invariably compare it to the X-Box One Forza 3 game that is awesome. The Need for Speed only uses the hand-held controller that came with the X-Box, it cannot be used with the Logitech steering wheel, foot pedals and gear shift. The clarity of the game is excellent, graphics and challenge of the game are very respectable. If you don't have the controls that simulate the inside of a car, the driving experience of this Need for Speed game would be perfectly fine. Even still, we would recommend the game. Good game for the price paid.

I bought this for my brother, who basically only plays racing games and GTA. He's a big fan of more arcade-style stuff - he likes the Forza series but even that can be a bit too complex and sim-like at times. Need for Speed Rivals has been out for a while, but only recently has become easier to find in stores. I think this is the best of the current-gen Need for Speeds, focusing more on the elements that make the series fun rather than emphasizing the "always online" component. Definitely a fun game if you're looking for a pick-up-and-play racer.

To me the controls are too sensitive. When you try to make a turn and slightly tap on the controller the car makes a sharp run instead of a gradual turn. Unless I just have not figured it out yet is the fact that you cannot play head to head with someone on the same system. I personally do not like playing on line with others so there should be a way I can play with someone on the same system I am using. The reason I selected I would recommend is that I have not played this game a lot and there maybe somethings that I just don't know yet.

I really like this game, the graphics are awesome, everything is beautiful to look at and I have caught myself stopping, backing up and looking at heavy equipment actually moving in game which just adds to the whole realism of it all. I guess the only thing that I have bad to say about the game is that it is a multiplayer game and you would think there would be either more players in the game or there would be something to draw everyone together in one place, that being said there are plenty of very good ai vehicles all around to keep you busy and loving the game.

This NFS is better than some previously released titles, but not really better than others. I was expecting much smoother, realistic graphics for the XBOX ONE. I'm not talking sim racing graphics, just wished things like tires appeared to be on the surface portrayed! -things like that bug me. The only things I find special about this title are: 1) the choice to be chaser or the chased. 2) #1 combined with multiplayer. Kinect still needs work with interactive games.

I have been looking for a fun Need for Speed game since Most Wanted, this game is as good as Most Wanted but running from the cops in this game is a close as I have gotten in years. Then you can turn it around and chase people as cops which was a nice little-added bonus. Not the greatest Need for Speed game but it is definitely in the top-tier.
