Great Camera!

Wow
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera is amazing. I was a little skeptical at first when I bought it since I've never owned a camera before but I can't find any flaws with it. It's compact, lightweight, looks slick, and overall just a fantastic camera. New or experienced I would recommend this camera to anyone looking to upgrade.

Very Pleased
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a replacement for a Nikon S6000, which developed a small black spot on the upper right screen, but still is functioning well otherwise. This new camera is slightly larger than the S6000, but has some additional features. So, far I am very pleased with the S9600.

Nice zoom
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this camera during the Black Friday Sale at a great price. I am still learning to use this camera as it has many features. I bought it mainly to use for the outdoors. Trying to capture those beautiful sunrises that I often see. The pictures are usually good but sometimes they are still darker than what I want. Still working on finding the right options to have the perfect picture.

EXCELLENT WHEN YOU GET A GOOD ONE!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'M 30 YEARS IN THE MOTION PICTURE AND TV BUSINESS SO I KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT CAMERAS. I WENT THROUGH SEVERAL OF THESE BEFORE I FOUND A GOOD ONE. THE FIRST ONE "CRASHED" FREQUENTLY REQUIRING THE BATTERY BE REMOVED TO RE START.. ON SUBSEQUENT ONES I FOUND THE AUTOFOCUS IN MOVIE MODE WOULD SLOWLY GET SLUGGISH OVER A FEW MINUTES TIME AND THEN STOP RESPONDING AS I DID A SIMPLE TEST OF SHOOTING AN OUTSIDE LANDSCAPE AND SHOOTING A CLOSE UP HAND HELD OBJECT OVER AND OVER. I FINALLY FOUND A KEEPER THAT REFOCUSES QUICKLY WITHOUT EVER "LOCKING UP" AND IT WORKS GREAT, I REALLY LIKE IT. I GOT IT ON SALE HERE AT BEST BUY FOR $149.99 WITH A MEM CARD AND CASE ON BLACK FRIDAY... GREAT DEAL!!! IF YOU BUY ONE, TEST IT IN MOVIE MODE - SHOOT A FEW MINUTES ALTERNATING CLOSE UP AND FAR AWAY AND CONFIRM THE AUTOFOCS IS SHARP AND RESPONDS THE ENTIRE TIME!

So Far, So Good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this camera to replace my trusty little Canon Powershot which had been my companion for almost four years. I have two of the most beautiful grandchildren in the world and I ALWAYS have my camera with me. Unfortunatley, I dropped my Canon one too many times and it just wasn't responding to my requests so when I saw this camera on sale with it's more powerful zoom than my old camera, I decided to give it a try. My first thought when I brought it home was that it was very bulky compared to my old camera. Not only was it bulky but it has square, rough edges on the casing and doesn't slide easily into my pocket. And that is about the only negative thing I have to say about this camera. So far, the pictures have been great. I have downloaded about 700 pictures in the three weeks I have had this camera (I told you my grandchildren were beautiful!) and most of them were good. It doesn't do really well at action shots but that may just be a learning curve for me. I will get more practice with that when the weather warms up and we are outside and active more. The color of the pictures is excellent. I haven't tried using its wifi function yet so I can't comment on that but it does intrigue me. Oh, I also am not crazy about the position of the flash but I quickly learned to move my finger when I turn the flash on. All in all, I would have to say that I have had mostly postive thoughts about this camera and am not unhappy with this purchase.

Q: QuestionI will be traveling in a country with 220V--will a converter be ok for charging the battery? Or should I just take extra batteries with me?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes, all Nikon Coolpix cameras have an auto switching (from 100v to 240V 50hz/60hz) battery charger that will work in most countries around the world. AC adapters have similar characteristics. Always check the specification plate on your other battery chargers or AC adapters as third party products may not support dual voltage systems. We do not suggest the use of third party battery chargers and AC adapters with Nikon equipment. Note that the power cord included with some Nikon chargers or AC adapter is designed for 110 volt use only. A power cord suitable for the local power system should be obtained on arrival, most airport shops and computer suppliers will carry these items which are typically used for laptop computer power supply connections. Be sure that the new cord you buy fits the Nikon adapter you wish to use it with and that it is rated for the voltage in your new location. While not recommended, a simple plug adapter may be used, but caution should be taken as the cord Nikon supplies is not rated for the higher voltage and may heat or fail. Some newer Coolpix have included an AC Adapter, like the EH-68P AC adapter, for plugging directly into a wall outlet without the use of a power cord. As with previous chargers, the correct adapter must be acquired for the country traveled to, and fitted to the Nikon AC adapter to allow proper AC connection to the wall outlet.

Q: QuestionCan the rechargeable batteries be replaced in the field?I go on multi-day hiking trips where an AC charger would be useless. I don't want to carry heavy portable power and may need to replace batteries when depleted. Is the battery easily removed to replace with a spare battery?
Asked by Keith.
- A:Answer Yes, very easy to pop out dead battery and pop in another one.

Q: QuestionHow to recharge battery?I recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix s9600 but it does not seem to hold a charge. I called the company and they dont have any advice. Do i need to remove to SD card? This just seems complicated. I need help. Thanks
Asked by lilrae.
- A:Answer I also just bought a Nikon Coolpix S9600. I do not have any problems with battery life. I just came back from a trip where I was taking pictures all day long, yet the battery charge indicator showed an almost full charge at the end of the day. I'm assuming you are plugging the cord if firmly, seeing the green charge light on during the charge and off when charge is complete.

Q: QuestionWhy is battery in Nikon 9600 not lasting long?I bought a Nikon 9600 and also purchased spare batteries. The manual suggests a battery should last for approx 290 shots. But after about 25 shots, the camera acts like the battery is exhausted and I cannot switch the camera back on. When I replace the battery with another fully charged one, a similar thing happens. Any suggestions?
Asked by George.
- A:Answer Bought my wife the Nikon 9600 for Christmas (Dec/2014) and it came with one Nikon EN-EL12 L-ION Battery. I also purchased two spare batteries that are "compatible" (OEM, Not Nikon) with EN-EL12, along with an external charger. The Original Nikon when fully charged, will take approximately 230 to 280 pictures. It is also dependent upon whether the Flash (Indoor/Evening) is used extensively or not; as well as the amount of time picture preview mode being utilized. As for the OEM/Compatible batteries, they are not quite as good as the Nikon Original, but almost; typically yielding between 200 to 250 pictures. The OEM Brand that we have are Vivitar, but there are other OEM Brands out there as well. However, the Vivitar Batteries received higher Customer Reviews, than these other OEM Brands. The external Charger appears to charge the battery quicker than the Nikon Micro-USB to Camera Adapter. Not sure if your Spare Batteries are Original Nikon EN-EL12, or OEM Branded. I might be suspicious of the OEM/Manufacturer of the spare batteries. I should not think that your batteries have gone thru their Use/Shelf-Life, as most smaller (Cell-Phone and Camera) L-ION batteries last 2 to 4 years of normal use; and the Coolpix s9600 has only been around for less than 2 years, I think.
