Do you recommend for new college students? null

I like it. The price was right. I just got it about 2 weeks ago. The only thing I don't like about it so far is I feel I have to push the space bar with some force in order for it to register. Unless my hands are directly above the keyboard.

Most Colleges have recommended specs. This model is certainly good on performance and should meet their recommendations.
