It is not hard to do. But you have to be gently careful in taking off the base cover. There are 14 philips head screws to undo. Remove the battery to reveal 2 of the 14. 4 are hidden. 2 are under the center strip on the back. The strip has 2 screw hole markings (circle with cross hatch) that you need to pop out. There is one each beneath the back rubber foot pads. Only peel back the pads a little from center side edge. The center screw anchors the DVD. Gently slide the DVD tray out to avoid damaging it while loosening the back off the laptop. Use a plastic prying edge to slowly and gently work the back cover off the laptop. The rest is on YouTubes. Look up HP 17 bs049dx HDD to SSD
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you really need to have a laptop with a SSD, then I really suggest shopping around more and buying a laptop that comes from the factory with a SSD. Replacing a hard drive is a somewhat complicated procedure, especially if you've never done it before. And, it's likely that if you remove the hard drive and replace it with a SSD, you will void the manufacturer's warranty, and the manufacturer will not perform any service on it, if there are another problems with the unit, during the time it is supposed to be under warranty. Buying a laptop computer with a built-in SSD makes much more sense, time and money wise, than trying to do a conversion.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.not that difficult to change ...just there is no middle screw, so be careful this may void the warranty if you pop off the rubber..think that's why they did it..i couldn't find any you tube assistance, so I was very very careful...try transfer data b4 u upgrade. Also looks like you can upgrade the memory once back is off which is nice. Trying to find max mem to put in..comes with 8 but would like 12 or 16 just to have it there and since cover is off..any info let me know
