No, you cannot send the audio out to another device and expect it to work. The HDMI cable must be the only cable carrying both video and audio. -Greg
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. To the best of my knowledge HDMI cables are for video only. Your home theater should have stereo audio cables that are normally red and white color coded that will plug directly into your TV.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you want a multiplexing unit to merge multiple HDMI input signals into a single bitstream output, then you need a $$$ device like Skreens on kickstarter.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Does your theater system have hdmi inputs? If so, run HDMI from blue ray to the theater and then HDMI from the theater to the TV. I would run a simple audio out from your satellite/cable box to the theater system, which gives you the option of using the theater system or not while you watch tv, but if you wanted to run hdmi from cable box to theater, and then to the tv, you could do that as well (you would just need theater system on to watch tv). If your theater system is really old and doesn't have hdmi inputs, Run audio output from your TV and Blue Ray players directly to the Theater system (separate from the hdmi). This will send the sound to your theater system. You shouldn't need this product for either one of those situations as you have 2 which should be enough. If you have an additional device (such as playstation), requiring a 3rd hdmi input, then you would need the hdmi switch.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You connect all the HDMI connections to the switch except the receiver. The switch connects via HDMI to the TV. You then connect an optical cable or COAX (RCA cable will work) to the receiver. Set the TV to output audio to optical and the receiver will play all sound from whatever is displayed on the TV. You may need to set a receiver input to the optical.
