• It depends on the TV. Newer TVs it is more likely to. Even if it does not it comes with a little remote already with a battery.

• yes, but hooking it up as instructed is not necessarily the best. TV went into channel 2 but have found it necessary to switch from 2 to another channel and back to get a clear picture. Also doing that too soon after turning on the TV sometimes results in no sound which requires one to start all over again.
