“Could I hook these speakers up to an A/V receiver instead of the blu-ray player? I would like to connect a gaming system and streaming player (Fire Stick or Roku) to the speakers and there is only one audio input.”

Yes! You can. That is what I did. I didn't use the audio out ports from the blu-ray player, but just used the hdmi out to a A/V receiver. Speakers were connected to A/V receiver and I could use the same set of speakers to play sound from any of my input connected to my A/V receiver.
