I had a similar problem and found that I had attached the speaker wire incorrectly. I found that I had wired into the + and - too far and was clamp down on the insulation and not on the bare wire in order to make contact. Run a speaker check and the speaker will not show as connected if not wired correctly. Double check your wire connections and run the speaker check again and I think you will find your problem solved.
