“Bought Samsung HTC650W 7 years ago - now it shuts itself off after going to Protect mode. Thinking of buying the HT-J5500 ZA unit instead of paying to have old one fixed. Can speakers and sub-woofers from the 2 units be spliced together for more effect”

You "can" do this. But I would not recommend it. You lose clarity and power to the speakers. Just purchase different speakers with the new system. It will work and sound better. Good luck! I am using klipsch speakers all the way around.
