If your TV has an optical output, use an optical cable and connect it to the optical input on Samsung. Any signal being fed to the TV will be fed to the Samsung, and likely will include the surround sound. If not, you may need to enable PCM or Bitstream in the audio settings of your TV, or your TV may have a stereo-only limitation. It always varies depending on the specific components of your system.

With an Optical cable, your TV will send all sounds to the Samsung Home Theater, and it will play in surround as long as what you are watching supports it. Hope that helps!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I also have set up with directv dvr, the best way I have found is to run hdmi from dvr to tv and then run digital audio out from tv into the player. Some channels out put in 5.1 but some won't so that could be why you only have front speakers one some things
