“I am looking for a system that will play the sound when I connect through an HDMI cord to TV to play movies from my IPAD. The system I have now will not play sound if the IPAD or Iphone is connected to TV. We use this a lot to watch movies and shows.”

Bluetooth is one of the possible inputs on this receiver. So for the situation you're describing, do not connect your ipad to the receiver. Connect your iPad via HDMI straight to your TV and after pairing the iPad via bluetooth with the receiver, choose the bluetooth input on the receiver.
