“If i connect an HDMI to iPhone connection will this project Netflix? I purchased another projector and it would just black out the netflix app. It would play the sound but not project the movie. Same with some shows on Youtube.”

It sounds like the third party adapter you are using for your iPhone does not support video streaming. I recommend to get the lighting digital a/v adapter directly from Apple and they will be able to play with no problems.
