No, it does not always need to be plugged into a wall outlet. Whether you need an external power source depends on how you connect it to your device: USB-C Connection: If your laptop or device supports video output and Power Delivery over USB-C (DisplayPort Alt Mode), a single USB-C cable will transmit both the video signal and power. HDMI Connection: If you use an HDMI cable for video, HDMI does not carry power. You will need to plug the monitor into an electrical outlet using the included AC adapter. On the Go: If your laptop does not supply enough power over USB-C, you can also power the monitor using a portable power bank.
