“Im trying to understand this. I pay for one year subscription($119). So once the subscription is up I will no longer be able to access the software or I can still access the software but not get any updates?”

Once the subscription is up the software stops working. It literally gives you a popup that says you have to renew it to use the software.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You will no longer have access to the software. Depending on your past use of they program, they may grant you a temporary "trial version" to give you time to renew. Normally the trials run for around 30 Days.
