They work better than traditional ear buds because they bypass the tympanic membrane of the ear and conduct the sound through the bones in your skull, however if you're driving you shouldn't use anything that blocks your focus from the road

Works better than in-ear headphones. Less wind noise when riding a bicycle. Cannot speak to an open convertable. Safer on a bicycle as you can hear traffic approaching from behind. Volume has to be turned down for a pleasant conversation.
