Well, loud is subjective. You can turn the volume up and down but since they don't directly impact your eardrum you may be surprised by how well you can hear even with the volume down but even on the loudest setting is still bearable

They are loud enough. Don’t go into it thinking you will hear bass though. They sound like what you would expect, but it’s a really great product.

Yes. I often turn them down so I can hear the ambient traffic noises as I walk in the street. This keeps me from getting run over by crazed drivers during rush hour.
