“Are the arm rests retractable, i.e. can they fold up out of the way? I desperately need something comfortable with back support for playing Guitar. Thank you kindly in advance.”

They're not removable. They do have a little bit of swivel out of the way, however being familiar with playing guitar i dont think its enough to allow to play comfortably.
