It has a power cord, no batteries, if that's what you mean. Otherwise, it is a wifi frame, so it communicates wirelessly.

Please try again later.Yes, it needs to be plugged in (I have Aluratek - 15.6" Widescreen LCD Wi-Fi Digital Photo Frame Model:AWS15F); it's wireless as far as downloading the pictures / video. I haven't played with it long enough to find out to be honest with you. I saw on the reviews someone had a hard time getting through to Customer Service. I was having an issue connecting with them. I picked up the phone and called in the middle of the day since they were on PST zone. Once I got through to them they were helpful. I made mentioned I emailed them and never heard back from them. Very please with the frame, I bought 2 frames. One was a gift and haven't uploaded pictures on the second one.
