Yes but dependent upon the connections available on the TV. Usually TV speakers automatically disconnect when anything is connected to the headphone jack some TV's may have a setting to allow speaker and headphone use simultaneously. If your TV also has audio line out (L/R RCA Jacks) use the Y connector provided to connect the transmitter to TV, usually this type connection does not affect the TV speakers. This method was used to connect transmitter to my TCL brand TV and it's also ideal for headphone only as it doesn't require disconnection to switch between headphone and speakers. Regardless of TV simultaneous speaker and headphone use can still be accomplished with addition of a pair of blue tooth speakers, the transmitter can pair with two devises at same time. I don't know about should you but can you, yes.

Please try again later.When one person is using the transmitter for headphones the TV speakers can be set to any desired volume (including mute) without affecting the experience of the person using the headphones. I have never used airpods but I'm guessing they would work the same way as other headphones.
