“I have an older rack system (Panasonic) that has a phone jack in the front of the amplifier to connect a Bluetooth adapter but there is no available RCA connection on the back of the amplifier. Is this the only way the Bluetooth adapter can be connected?”

I used one connected to RCS jacks on my receiver and the second one plugged in to RCA jacks on my mixer on my second set up
