You can record to a flash drive or an external hard drive. If you are wanting to record a lot of shows before watching, you will need a large hard drive. YOU CANNOT RECORD AND WATCH ANOTHER CHANNEL - UNLESS IT IS IN THE SAME NUMBERS. (i.e., you cant watch channel 10 and record channel 13). You can watch 10-1 through 10-???.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Haven't tried it yet but the manual says you can use a external HD or a thumb (flash) drive. The manual lists the different types of format (ie fat32 or NTFS) is needed for different types of drives. Seems like a nice feature.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. These type pvrs are fussy with hard drives bigger than 2T (about 200 hours recording), so try it on ones you already have before buying a really huge one.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I saw that a USB external hard drive can be used but when I plugged in my 500 GB WD hard drive formatted in exFAT, it kept saying no disk. Eventually I inserted my 64 GB USB Thumb Drive and it worked perfectly.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have a 1T Western Digital external hard drive. I have tired it formatted as NTFS and exFAT and neither one works. I am returning this unit and going to buy one that cost a little more. I guess when you buy a cheap one you get what you pay for.
