“After the wash cycle is done, the machine does not drain and spin automatically. I have to manually turn the dial to drain/spin or rinse/spin. Is this how the machine is supposed to work?”

No, it is not suppose to do that. You might want to call where you bought the washer so they can send a tech to check it out
