You have to wait until the washer gets to the "final rinse" cycle, open the lid, and pour the fabric softener into the tub. Very inconvenient because you have to wait around & figure out when it is in the final rinse. The cycle light only tells you it is in the rinse cycle, and I don't know how to tell if it is a "final rinse" or not.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This does not come with a fabric softener dispenser unfortunately. You can buy the attachment that goes onto your agitator through whirlpool. Just buying the washer myself I was disappointed in this but at least it can be added with very little cost! Also the information for this is in the manual under "Accessories" on page 3 for those who are wondering.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Doesn't take much to put a fabric softener dispenser on an NTW4516FW1 (if I can do it, you can). Order the part from Whirlpool (#8575076A; about $20 with FedEx delivery). When it arrives, take a flat-bit screwdriver, find a small notch in the agitator cap, put it in and gently turn to get the cap to pop off. Set it aside. Get the dispenser out of the packaging, set it on top of the agitator and gently press down. That's it. Fill it with the appropriate amount of softener, fill it to the full mark with water, and wash as normal. The dispenser sends the stuff out in the first spin cycle. They recommend using the extra rinse. By the time it was done, the dispenser was empty and the clothes smelled nice. And no more dryer sheets. Keep the cap for use should the dispenser fail. Amana/Whirlpool (there's only two or three companies still making washers in the US; they sell them under various names) could have solved this by making them standard and charging a few bucks more. It took some 25 minutes on the phone fighting with the automation to finally get to a parts guy to get it ordered, but all works now.
I would recommend:
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There isn't a specific spot for it. I use a Downy Ball.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is put in the middle of the agitator, down the hole.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can purchase the fabric softener dispenser separately and install it easily. That's what I did.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You could buy a downy dispenser for $2.99 at your local store
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Mndy, If you were needing to put in fabric softener you would have to manually add it for model NTW4516FW as it does not have a fabric softener dispenser.
